Mixer Driver Job Description
The Mixer Driver’s primary responsibility is to drive concrete mixer trucks to and from various job sites as directed by the plant manager. At the job site they are responsible for operating the truck to unload and place the ready-mixed concrete where directed by the contractor on site. Drivers are also responsible for daily vehicle inspections, fuel and mileage reports, and minor repair work to their truck. This is a hands-on position that is responsible for maximizing daily production. This position plays an integral part in daily plant operations.
Key Tasks
The following reflect the main tasks associated with the Mixer Driver position and are not intended to be exclusive or exhaustive:
- Safely drive the concrete mixer truck to and from various job sites
- Safely climb ladder system on truck to perform a thorough wash down after loading and unloading
- Ensure the product is mixing properly in transit
- At the jobsite, unload, handle and assemble chutes to prepare to unload product in a safe and efficient manner
- At the jobsite, operate the truck in such a way to unload and place the product where instructed by the contractor
- Complete Pre-trip and Post-trip inspections daily, documenting such action on the Daily Vehicle Inspection Report, this will include lifting the hood to check fluids
- Complete fuel and mileage reports as required by the Plant Manager
- Perform simple routine maintenance and minor repair items on the truck
- Keep equipment in good, clean, safe and working condition
- Participate in plant maintenance such as shoveling fugitive material, applying grease at grease points, assembling and dissembling concrete block forms for leftover product
Key Relationships
- It is essential that strong relations are established and maintained with the Plant Manager. An integral part of this is ensuring that progress or changes in job or project status are regularly communicated to the Plant Manager.
- It is essential that the Mixer Driver builds effective working relationships with other Mixer Drivers to communicate any issues or challenges present at a particular job or on a particular route.
- Strong customer and supplier relationships are vital – to accomplish this, Mixer Drivers must be professional and courteous when in contact with customers and ensure proper service is being provided.
Criteria & Critical Skills
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid Class A or Class B (with Air Brake Endorsement) Commercial Driver License
- Clean driving record as documented by a Motor Vehicle Record
- Valid and current Department of Transportation physical
- Ability to pass pre-employment & random drug screens and background check
- Working knowledge of vehicle safety
- Defensive driving skills and knowledge of rules of the road
- Knowledge of DOT and CDL regulations
- Ability to lift heavy objects – chutes weigh up to 50 lbs
- Knowledge of construction site safety
- Fine motor skills required for operating chute controls and mixer drum charging/discharging
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
