Product Specialist – Pharma/Chemical Business Unit

1. Position
Providing technical and application support related to BUCHI products within the business unit
- Focus on instruments that support the organic synthesis workflow
- Including evaporation, spray drying, melting point, freeze-drying, and preparative chromatography
2. Basic Qualifications
- BS/BA degree in chemistry or related field
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent verbal, written, and phone communication skills with a strong interest in interacting directly with customers
- Skilled at developing and maintaining effective working relationships
- Self-motivated and excels under pressure
- Highly functional in MS Office programs (Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)
3. Preferred Qualifications
- BS/MS in chemistry with an organic focus
- Chromatography experience (flash, HPLC, SFC)
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting laboratory equipment
- 6 months or more of academic research or industry lab experience related to organic chemistry and synthesis
4. Reporting
The Product Specialist will report directly to the Manager of Technical and Application Support of BUCHI Corporation. This position falls under the Marketing Team lead by the VP of Sales.
5. Job Description
A. Scope
As a key member of the BUCHI team, the Product Specialist (PS) is responsible for product and application support for existing and potential customers. Nurturing customer relationships and instilling confidence in the customers is a key priority. Other duties include pre- and post-sales support, technical and application support. The PS will liaise with sales, service, customer support, and the corporate headquarters in Switzerland.
B. Specific Responsibilities
- Direct point of contact for incoming demand of phone, email, and chat support related to the covered product lines including but not limited to legacy products, quote configurations, parts identification, technical specifications, and application questions
- Backup support for other products as needed
- Entry of all related activities into BUCHI’s Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system
- Responsibility for pre/post-sale support to the BUCHI field sales team and customers through conference calls, feasibility studies, applications development, demonstrations, and training mostly based in the New Castle office live or virtual/web
- Implementation and input into marketing campaigns and materials in coordination with the Head of Marketing, the Marketing and Communications Specialist, and the Product Manager(s) at headquarters
- Training sales, service, customer support, and other PSs in various aspects of the product lines
- Act as liaison with PSs and application specialists at the corporate headquarters in Switzerland and other affiliates
- Execution of technical solutions such as seminars, webinars, application papers, oral presentations, posters, and web training

- Updating CRM records to reflect customer interactions
- Be available for up to 20% overnight travel. This includes customer visits for training and application development, installation, trade shows, conferences, and possibly international travel. Occasional travel on or over weekends is possible to set up a trade show or to travel internationally.

6. Compensation
- The Company will pay the Product Specialist a total available compensation (TAC) of US $85,000-110,000 based on relevant experience.
- 85% of the TAC is comprised of base salary paid twice a month on the 15th and last day of each month.
- 15% of the TAC is part of an incentive plan, which will be defined based on quarterly and annual business targets. The full incentive at plan is not guaranteed and is based on actual results.
