We are looking for a Tool Room Machinist to help us create the highest quality knives.
SUMMARY:
Produce High quality parts for prototyping, fixtures, or tooling. Works with engineers on bringing concepts to reality using Haas CNC vertical mills, manual mill or lathe, Star Screw Machines, surface grinders and Agie Charmilles wire EDM and sinkers. Mastercam and Solid works are used for drafting and programming. Familiarity with Fine and Conventional Blanking processes and die maintenance are encouraged.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following.
- Setup and program Haas CNC Mills.
- Program using Mastercam software.
- Hand edit M and G code at the machine.
- Hold tight tolerances associated with the machining of precision parts.
- Competent blueprint reading and tolerance understanding, using micrometers, indicators, edge finder’s calipers or various measuring tools to verify part accuracy.
- Program and operate Wire EDM and sinker.
- Program swiss mills with Mastercam software.
- Timing and Sharpening of dies.
- Deburr parts as necessary.
- Resolve machining or assembly problems through discussions with others.
- Communicate effectively with engineering to advise on machinability of new components.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks on machines as required.
- Maintain cleanliness and maintenance of the machines and Tool Room.
- Comply with all standard safety practices, safety rules, and all Company rules and policies.
- Comply with all quality policies, specifications and instructions.
- Ability to handle sharp knives and other items continuously throughout the day.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
- All other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to read and interpret work from sketches, specifications, blueprints and job orders to workers through BOMs (Build of Materials).
- Have a thorough knowledge of Tool Steels, along with knowing the heat treating qualities of a tool steel, and their application.
- Must have the ability to trouble shoot.
- Able to use various precision measuring devices to check dimensions against allowable tolerances.
- Excellent communications skills
- Able to work well independently and as a team.
- Must possess a sense of urgency, accountability, and professionalism.
- Must be self-starter able to multi-task and prioritize workload.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Associate Degree or technical degree or equivalent combination of experience & education.
- 5 years experience as a Machinist.
- MasterCam drawing and programming
- Understanding of Tool and Die process
- Experience working within a manufacturing environment a plus.
- Buck Knives is willing to train the right person in certain areas, if majority of qualifications are already met.
