We are seeking a new Community Outreach & Education Coordinator to join our team. Your role will be to arrange a variety of suicide prevention presentations and trainings for community groups, organizations, schools and volunteers. You will create and develop presentations and trainings suitable for use as Suicide Prevention Outreach/Education tools for various audiences in the community. The typical schedule is Monday-Friday, 8 am - 4:30 pm, with some evenings and weekends.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Responsible for developing public and private presentations, maintaining a focus on Outreach and Education about Suicide Prevention and Volunteer Recruitment for the Suicide Prevention Hotline as key areas.
- Arrange, develop and present trainings on Suicide Prevention and the work of the hotline in the community, developing working relationships & memorandums of understanding (MOUs) where needed.
- Attend events representing Buckelew Programs, particularly the SP&CC program, with a focus on education about Suicide Prevention and volunteer recruitment.
- May participate in hotline in-service trainings.
- Maintain spreadsheet records of demographics of all contacts and presentations and create a quarterly report for program contract fulfillment.
- Coordination with the Development Department, arrange for the order/reorder of presentation materials and Hotline cards insuring all details are up to date with each order
WHAT YOU WILL BRING:
Education and Experience: High school diploma required; advanced education in social work, counseling, human service or related field desired but not required. Experience in community outreach preferred. Group presentation skills in a variety of settings desired. ASIST, QPR, SOS or SafeTalk training desired. Experience working within all the rules, regulations, and policies that govern agency compliance. Must be sympathetic to the principles, purposes and objectives of SP&CC and Buckelew Programs.
Skills and Abilities: Competence with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook at an intermediate level. Experience using PREZI preferred. Highly organized. Flexible schedule and availability to participate in speaking and event opportunities which may include weekends and evenings. Good written communication skills and excellent oral communication skills. Able to effectively and succinctly communicate to individuals and large groups. Reliable with excellent attention to detail and accuracy. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships based on mutual trust and respect, and be a team player. Able to partner with, and support, program leaders throughout the organization as well as community partners. Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team. Able to complete all tasks required in a timely fashion. Working understanding of highly confidential environments and ability to maintain confidentiality. Knowledge of HIPAA requirements. Must have valid California driver's license with an insurable driving record, use of own vehicle, mileage will be reimbursed.
Physical Requirements: Requires occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds); and standing, walking, talking and hearing for the majority of a shift. Nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility. Ability to maintain composure and work quality during presentations and when interacting with others; regular local travel; involves frequent exposure to demands and pressures from persons other than immediate supervisor. Able to handle objects with both hands and the use of fine motor skills on a regular basis. Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a copy machine, and computer printer. Vision requirements: ability to see information in print and/or electronically. Hearing requirements: ability to hear information in person and by telephone.
