Position Summary:
The Associate Editor, as part of the Post-Gazette's Pulitzer Prize-finalist Opinion team, writes and edits editorials and op-ed pieces for the daily Post-Gazette and Sunday Insight section while overseeing the production of the daily Opinion pages. This role requires strong editorial judgment, leadership in content direction, and collaboration with freelance contributors and the design team.

The Associate Editor, as part of the Post-Gazette's Pulitzer Prize-finalist Opinion team, writes and edits editorials and op-ed pieces for the daily Post-Gazette and Sunday Insight section while overseeing the production of the daily Opinion pages. This role requires strong editorial judgment, leadership in content direction, and collaboration with freelance contributors and the design team.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage freelance contributors for the daily Perspectives page.
- Supervise the design and copy desk liaison for daily Opinion pages.
- Support the Editorial Director and Deputy Editorial Director in executing the vision of the Opinion section.
- Direct the daily Opinion page content, including long-term initiatives, in consultation with editorial leadership.
- Stay current with evolving technology, editorial initiatives, and newsroom operations.
- Ensure all deadlines and budget requirements are met.
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) and 3-7 years of related editorial experience.
- Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent writing, editing, and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong leadership and collaboration abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and oversee editorial production.
- Computer literacy and a willingness to adapt to evolving newsroom technologies.
