The Central Supply Technician is responsible for managing and distributing medical supplies and equipment in a healthcare, long-term care, or assisted living facility. This role ensures that the facility is well-stocked with necessary supplies, manages inventory, and maintains accurate records of supply usage. The Central Supply Technician plays a key role in supporting patient care by ensuring that staff have the resources they need to deliver quality care efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Inventory Management:
- Maintain accurate records of supplies, equipment, and materials in the central supply department.
- Monitor inventory levels, restock supplies as needed, and order items to ensure there is no disruption in patient care.
- Organize and label supplies for easy access, keeping the supply room clean and well-organized.
- Assist with receiving, inspecting, and stocking deliveries, ensuring that items are in good condition and meet facility requirements.
Supply Distribution:
- Distribute medical supplies and equipment to departments and nursing units based on requests and established inventory needs.
- Prepare supply carts and equipment for daily rounds, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of needed items to staff.
- Ensure that all items are distributed properly and returned to central supply when no longer needed or out of date.
Record-Keeping and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate inventory records using manual logs or supply management software, ensuring timely updates.
- Track supply usage and report any discrepancies or significant changes in usage patterns to management.
- Conduct periodic inventory audits to ensure accuracy and identify shortages or excesses.
Equipment Maintenance and Sterilization:
- Clean and sterilize medical equipment and instruments as needed, following proper safety protocols and infection control guidelines.
- Ensure that equipment is in good working condition before it is distributed, and report any malfunctions or needed repairs to the appropriate department.
- Monitor expiration dates on supplies and replace outdated items promptly to ensure that all supplies are safe for use.
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow safety guidelines, infection control protocols, and proper handling procedures when working with medical supplies and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as facility policies, regarding the storage and distribution of medical supplies.
- Participate in safety training and maintain a safe work environment, reporting any hazards or issues to management.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Communicate regularly with nursing staff, department heads, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that supply needs are being met.
- Address any supply-related concerns or requests from staff in a timely and efficient manner.
- Work closely with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery and quality control of all medical supplies.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Certification in central supply or sterile processing is preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in central supply, inventory management, or healthcare supply chain is preferred but not required. Training will be provided.
