Job Summary:
The 1st Grade English Teacher is responsible for teaching foundational English language skills, including reading, writing, listening, and speaking, to young learners. The teacher will create a nurturing and engaging classroom environment that fosters literacy development, critical thinking, and a love for language while addressing the unique learning needs of each student.
Key Responsibilities:Instruction and Lesson Planning
- Develop and deliver engaging lesson plans that align with school and state English language curriculum standards.
- Teach phonics, vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, and writing skills.
- Use storytelling, interactive activities, and multimedia resources to enhance language learning.
Classroom Management
- Create and maintain a positive and organized classroom environment that promotes active participation and respect.
- Establish clear rules and expectations for student behavior.
- Manage classroom dynamics effectively to maximize learning time.
Student Assessment and Progress Tracking
- Assess student progress regularly through formative and summative evaluations.
- Identify individual learning needs and adapt instruction to support all students, including those with language barriers or special needs.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance and share progress with parents/guardians during conferences and regular updates.
Communication and Collaboration
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians about student progress, challenges, and successes.
- Work collaboratively with other teachers and school staff to align teaching strategies and foster a supportive learning environment.
- Participate in professional development to stay updated on best practices in English language instruction.
Enrichment Activities
- Encourage creativity and a love of reading through storytime, book projects, and writing assignments.
- Organize classroom activities such as reading challenges, English-themed games, and presentations to make learning interactive and enjoyable.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, English, or a related field.
- Certification: Valid teaching certification/license of elementary education for the state of South Carolina is required
- Experience: Experience teaching English to young children is preferred.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
