Job Summary: The Compliance Director ensures that Buckeye Relief adheres to all federal, state, and local laws and regulations governing the medical and adult use marijuana industry in Ohio. This role is critical to maintaining operational licenses, managing risk, and fostering a culture of compliance across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all company operations, including cultivation, processing, packaging, distribution and retail sales comply with state medical and adult use marijuana laws.
- Participate in the review of advertising and packaging changes in lieu of submission to the state to ensure compliance.
Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Development
- Assist in the design, develop, and maintain comprehensive SOPs for all operational processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory and safety standards.
- Collaborate with department heads to incorporate industry best practices and regulatory updates into SOPs.
- Establish a review and update schedule to ensure SOPs remain current and effect
- Provide step-by-step regulatory guidance for all critical processes, including cultivation, processing, packaging, labeling, inventory management and retail sales.
Training and Education
- Develop and implement a robust compliance training program for employees at all levels.
- Deliver regular training sessions on SOPs, DCC regulations, and company policies.
- Develop and conduct new hire onboarding sessions with a focus on compliance, security and safety processes.
- Create training materials, including manuals, preventions, and e-learning modules, to ensure consistent knowledge dissemination of DCC compliance related information
- Track and document employee training records to demonstrate compliance during audits and inspect
Agency Inspections
- Participate in regulatory inspections and audits conducted by state and local agencies.
- Prepare for agency inspections, ensuring the readiness of facilities, personnel, and records.
- Conduct pre-inspection reviews and internal mock inspections to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Respond promptly and effectively to inquiries or findings from regulatory agencies, including drafting and submitting corrective action plans when required.
Auditing and Monitoring
- Participate in developing a comprehensive internal audit program to ensure compliance across all departments and operation
- Perform regular and ad hoc audits of key functions, such as inventory management, waste management, seed-to-sale tracking, facility security, record-keeping, and product labeling and others as needed
- Verify accuracy and integrity of compliance documentation including licenses, permits, inspections, audits, and employee training records.
- Collaborate with department heads to address audit findings and implement corrective act
Incident Management
- Participate in internal and external compliance and violation reviews including recommending corrective act
- Implement and track corrective action plans to resolve compliance issues.
Risk Management
- Identify potential compliance risks and develop migration strategies.
- Stay informed about industry trends and legal developments to anticipate potential regulatory changes.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree, business administration, healthcare, or a related field.
- At least 3-5 years of compliance experience, preferably in a regulated industry such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, or cannabis.
- Expertise in developing and implementing SOPs.
- In-depth knowledge of Ohio's marijuana laws and regulation
- Proficient in METRC
- Excellent organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with seed-to-sale tracking systems.
Working Conditions:
- This position is based near Cleveland Ohio and may require occasional travel to other Buckeye Relief locations and additional locations for conferences, training or other business-related activation
- Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings or weekends based on organizational needs.
