TITLE:
District Lead School Psychologist


EMPLOYMENT TERMS: 1.0 FTE/ 10-month position

GENERAL STATEMENT of RESPONSIBILITIES:

The District Lead School Psychologist will be responsible for providing a positive relationship with students, faculty, staff, and parents across the district. Responsibilities will include maintaining a high level of confidentiality and standard professionalism as they provide support for the Director of Exceptional Student Services, the ESS District Office, and other School Psychologists and ESS staff.


PRINCIPLE DUTIES:

  • Assist other school psychologists with evaluations to avoid evaluation timeline noncompliance.
  • Assist other school psychologists with evalaution preparation (MET1) paperwork and performing individual assessments with test interpretation and analysis (MET2).
  • Mentor and collaborate with campus school psychologists.
  • Peform all Independent Education Evaluations ($2500) for the district when requested.
  • Assist with coordinating and facilitating district psychologists meetings that include relevant ADE “hot topics”, ongoing improvement in evaluation report writing, and case/student studies.
  • Assist in ESS Program development, including research and data analysis.
  • Assist in the analysis of ESS staffing needs (e.g., one-to-one health aides).
  • Consult with school site ESS teams regarding transfer reviews and program recommendations.
  • Assist with the development of ESS processes/procedures as needed in the district, to include Child Find, SST, and the ESS Referral system.
  • Assist with training new school psychologists hired by the district.
  • Assist with Alternative Assessment data review for appropriate state testing placement.
  • Conduct ESA and District Homeschool Evaluations for students not enrolled in BUHSD.
  • Assist with 504 consultation for all schools.
  • Provide support for High Profile IEP Cases/Meetings.
  • ADE Monitoring Lead (including MET review and feedback).
  • Coordinate and order School Psychologist Test Materials.
  • Coordinate and conduct MET/IEP meetings when necessary on students in Residential Treatment Centers and/or on Vouchers.
  • Assist with district BID meetings that involve ESS students.
  • Assist with implementing individual programs of intervention, through active involvement of all persons who have contact with the student, in the home, school and community environment.
  • Assist the ESS Director in prioritizing and bringing attention to issues of concern regarding special education services and programs in order to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Supports teachers by providing informal behavioral observations in the classroom and assisting teachers with classroom problems to establish effective behavior management programs.
  • Works with staff to develop functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans.
  • Provides Parent Education Programs to parents who need assistance in developing effective behavior management techniques.
  • Develops and maintains contacts with community agencies and specialists in order that community resources may be used to supplement the services of the school psychologists in the district.
  • Provides formal and/or informal training of staff regarding special education procedures, legal requirements, and special education processes.
  • Acts as district liason for students in private placement and follows all relevant procedures and times.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s Degree in School Psychology
  • Three (3) years of experience, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Valid AZ Department of Education School Psychologist Certificate
  • Obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (AZ IVP FPCC)
  • Exhibits integrity in applying the ethics and standards of professional practice in the delivery of school psychological services, including honoring confidentiality.
  • Ability to explain the educational needs of students in terms that can be easily understood by parents and other appropriate personnel.
  • Ability to maintain clear communication with administration, staff, parents, and students as a member of various school teams.


OCCUPATIONAL CONDITION:

Low risk - Work is routinely performed in indoor environments, including exposure to noise and being on your feet for extended periods of time. May require standing in inclement weather including summer heat.

    • Regularly required to sit, talk and/or hear.

    • Lift on a regular basis 30-50lbs
    • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools and/or controls; and reach with hands and arms on a regular basis.
    • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Visual weakness must not prohibit the performance of assigned duties.
    • Verbal communicative ability may be required of public contact positions.
    • Ability to travel throughout school sites as required.
    • Must be able to move quickly when needed (student safety).
    • Must be able to tolerate prolonged periods of sitting and computer work.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of secondary school education and administration.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills as well as attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to analyze data in various applications including excel.
  • Modern office technology, both electrical and non-electrical, is needed to increase efficiency, such as computers, telephones, printers, scanners and copiers.
  • Psychological testing devices.
  • Communicates. Reads. Comprehends. Performs function from oral, written, and graphic instructions and from observation of others. Evaluates written materials.

The evaluation is done by the ESS Director.


SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

The District Lead School Psychologist reports directly to the ESS Director.
