Job description
We are looking for an exceptional Veterinary Assistant to care for animals and support our veterinarian and technicians. You’ll play an important role in bringing comfort to our patients and ensuring the smooth running of our busy facility. One of the most important Veterinary Assistant responsibilities is to ensure all areas are clean, for animals and humans alike. For this position, you will need the ability to care for patients properly, that’s one of the most important Vet Assistant job requirements. This includes knowledge of routine tasks but also readiness to care for injured or scared animals that might occasionally lash out. If you are responsible, organized, quick on your feet, and have the stomach to help with medical operations and euthanasia, we’d like to meet you. Veterinary assistants typically do the following: feed bathe and exercise patients, clean and disinfect cages and kennels, wash bowls and litter boxes, clean treatment and examination and operating rooms, restrain animals during examination and laboratory procedures, perform venipuncture and radiographs, and general end-of-day cleaning.
```Duties```
- Assist veterinarians and technicians with examinations, procedures, and surgeries
- Provide animal husbandry and basic care, including feeding, grooming, and exercise
- Handle and restrain animals during examinations and treatments
- Administer medications and treatments under the supervision of veterinarians or technicians
- Perform basic laboratory tests, such as blood work and urinalysis
- Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas for procedures
- Clean and sterilize equipment and instruments
- Maintain accurate records of patient care and treatment
```Requirements```
- Previous experience as a Veterinary Assistant or in a related field is preferred
- Knowledge of animal care practices, including animal restraint techniques
- Familiarity with veterinary terminology and procedures
- Ability to handle animals with care and compassion
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the job (e.g. lift up to 40 lbs)
- Must be able to be on feet eight hours per day.
