Position Summary
Buckman is seeking a candidate interested in an opportunity to lead process safety strategies and leverage subject matter expertise. The position will report directly to the Global Engineering Director and be based in the Memphis manufacturing facility, which is at the same location as Buckman's Worldwide headquarters. The position will routinely collaborate with seven other manufacturing locations in North America, LATAM, EMENA, South Africa, APAC, and China. The primary purpose of this role is to provide engineering support for the local Memphis manufacturing, R&D and Pilot Plant with regard to process safety. In addition, key emphasis will be placed on execution of management system implementation in all 20 elements of Risk-Based Process Safety and collaboration with Safety, Environmental, and Health professionals. This opportunity will challenge the candidate with projects across the globe and across multiple high hazard chemical families.
The Senior Process Safety Engineer is responsible for leading and managing process safety initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices. This role focuses on identifying and mitigating risks associated with chemical and manufacturing processes while driving continuous improvement in process safety management (PSM) systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in process safety, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance, as well as experience working in a manufacturing or chemical processing environment.
The candidate will work closely with cross-functional engineering / technical professionals, as well as managers and front-line associates to accomplish the global process safety strategy. You will be challenged to work within a team environment across different areas of the globe. The candidate will also be expected to be self-motivated to meet deadlines and seek out the knowledge needed to complete and successfully execute the process safety strategy, process engineering and new product introduction initiatives, CAPEX projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and tasks assigned.
Key Outcomes / Responsibilities
- Serve as Process Safety Management (PSM) coordinator for Memphis Manufacturing site by advising and developing strategies to further improve process safety locally and globally.
- Provide inputs regarding PSM priorities, budget and resources needed. Assist the Plant Manager in developing the site's PSM continuous improvement plan, policies, goals, and processes in accordance with global engineering and safety standards.
- Ensure that Buckman Process Safety Management System (BPSMS) procedures are followed when making any changes and or equipment additions
- Lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) / Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), Risk Assessments, Management of Change (MOC), Internal and External Audits, Pre-Startup and Post - Startup reviews, Incident Investigations, and Training
- Develop and implement Risk Based Process Safety guidelines under Center for Chemical Process Safety in manufacturing plants and customer service / field equipment applications.
- Maintain up-to-date information about and interpret local, state and federal PSM regulations
- Anticipating, identify, and evaluate hazardous conditions, equipment, processes and practices through R&D and technical design knowledge, associate interactions and site inspection
- Establish, measure, audit and evaluate the effectiveness of hazard controls and hazard control programs
- Collaborate global manufacturing efforts with regard to high hazard chemical reactions and raw materials under scope of process safety and risk-based process safety elements
- Contribute from a process safety perspective on global product development and New Product Introduction
- Assist in the preparation of SOPs for new or improved products together with R&D and Pilot Plant
- Set up and design equipment for new processes to handle high hazards per RAGAGEPs
- Manage assigned engineering projects by complying with CAPEX governance and stage-gate project management process
- Develop process safety information (PSI) BPSMS products and engineering projects
- Develop process design packages including development or revisions to P&ID's / Process Flow Diagrams and relief system sizing
- Actively seek guidance, participate periodically and bench marking with other AICHE CCPS Steering Committee organizations or 3rd party process safety experts
- Lead PSM coordinator network global best practices sharing and implementation
