Job Summary
The Program Aide works as a part of a team to assist with activities in the classroom and food distribution. Works with typically developing children and/or children with special needs/disabilities. The position may be reassigned to various classrooms/centers as deemed necessary for program operations. The program aide is responsible to assist in the day to day operations in one or more classrooms/centers.
Essential Functions
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is frequently required to walk; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee may be required to stand for long periods, and to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work
This is a part-time, 185-day calendar position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday. Hours of work are from 10:45 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Hours are dependent on the needs of the districts. Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
Travel or transport may be expected for this position.
Education
The minimum requirement is a high school diploma or G.E.D.
Experience/Skills

Essential Functions
- Assists classroom staff in all classroom activities, field trips and outdoor activities included in lesson plans.
- Helps supervise at mealtime, eating with the children to encourage good nutrition and social skills.
- Helps keep the classroom and its contents clean and orderly.
- Assists the teacher in any aspect of the program as the need arises (e.g. copying newsletters, cutting out classroom materials, etc.)
- Notifies teacher and/or center lead of any safety, health issues or concerns.

Experience/Skills
- Knowledge of the basics of working with preschool children
- Knowledge of basic food preparation, serving and sanitation practices
- Knowledge of local resources, customs and languages helpful
- Ability to exhibit patience and tact when communicating with children, families, staff, management, referral sources and the public
- Ability to project professionalism in conducting daily activities
- Some bilingual fluency helpful
