SUMMARY

Bucks County SPCA (BCSPCA) Outreach Assistants are a key part of the small but mighty Community Outreach team. Our programs support in-shelter services and extend the reach of the BCSPCA beyond the walls of our facilities. We work with pet lovers who want to help us serve pets and people in Bucks County as well as those who need our help. Outreach programs include volunteering, fostering, offsite adoptions, educational opportunities, community events, and owned pet assistance. The position is based at our Quakertown animal care facility and focuses on efforts in the Upper Bucks area but also includes some travel within the county and occasional time at our Lahaska animal care facility. Outreach Assistants report to the Volunteer Manager and also work closely with the Director of Community Outreach and Foster and Offsite Adoption Manager.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under guidance of the Volunteer Manager, assists Quakertown volunteers and provides ongoing communication and support.
  • Assists with recruitment, onboarding, and training of volunteers.
  • Regularly communicates via email, in person, and over the phone, with colleagues, volunteers and members of the public, regarding departmental and organizational needs, updates, and services.
  • Supports all aspects of the foster program, including pickup and return of foster animals and supply management.
  • Participates in all other outreach programs as needed including educational opportunities such as tours, presentations, and service projects, and events.

QUALIFICATIONS OF THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Minimum 1 year professional or volunteer experience in community outreach preferred
  • Passionate people-person who loves making connections with the community
  • Communicates with compassion in a clear, positive, and instructive manner
  • Commitment to the mission of the Bucks County SPCA
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent internal and external customer service
  • Mid-level computer skills and use of standard office equipment
  • Valid driver’s license and a good driving record
  • Ability to obtain the following: Report of criminal history from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP);Child Abuse History Certification from the Department of Human Services (Child Abuse); Fingerprint based federal criminal history submitted through the Pennsylvania State Police or its authorized agent (FBI)
  • High school diploma or equivalent required, college degree preferred
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to support programs’ goals, including daytime, some evenings, and one weekend day
  • Thrives in a fast-paced work environment while managing multiple priorities independently and as a team
  • Strong recordkeeping skills and attention to detail
  • Physical requirements include ability to talk, hear, and see, as well as sit, stand, walk, regularly lift and move up to 60 lbs., and use hands to handle, feel and for fine motor skills

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $15.00 per hour
