Job Description

The Driver Trainer Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the development, coordination, and delivery of all driver training programs to ensure the highest level of safety and compliance. This role focuses on training new and existing drivers in vehicle operations, defensive driving, safety protocols, and paratransit-specific procedures, including wheelchair securement and client interaction. The Driver Trainer Supervisor will also review incidents/collisions, coordinate with the insurance company, investigate incidents, and provide backup support to the DART manager as needed. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in driving, particularly in paratransit or similar environments, and a passion for teaching and mentoring drivers. This role requires flexibility to travel between terminals, visit incident sites, and conduct wheelchair checks with clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Training Program Oversight:
    • Develop, coordinate, and maintain all driver training programs for new and existing drivers.
    • Conduct hands-on training sessions, including defensive driving, vehicle operations, incident procedures, and safety protocols.
    • Train drivers on paratransit-specific procedures, such as wheelchair securement, passenger assistance, and use of specialized equipment.
  • Driver Orientation:
    • Lead new driver orientations, ensuring all drivers are familiar with company policies, safety standards, and operational procedures.
    • Conduct road tests and certifications for new drivers.
  • Incident/Collision Review and Investigation:
    • Review and analyze incidents/collisions to determine root causes and recommend corrective actions.
    • Coordinate with the insurance company to provide necessary documentation and reports related to incidents.
    • Conduct thorough investigations of incidents, including interviewing drivers, reviewing footage, and compiling detailed reports.
    • Travel to incident sites as needed to conduct on-site investigations and provide support.
  • Wheelchair Securement and Client Interaction:
    • Train drivers on proper wheelchair securement techniques and ensure compliance with safety standards.
    • Conduct wheelchair checks with clients to ensure proper securement and address any concerns or issues.
    • Provide guidance to drivers on best practices for assisting clients with mobility devices.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Ensure all training programs comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT requirements.
    • Stay up-to-date on industry best practices and incorporate them into training programs.
    • Conduct periodic retraining sessions to reinforce safety practices and address any areas of concern.
  • Mentorship and Support:
    • Provide ongoing support and mentorship to drivers, addressing any questions or concerns related to driving and safety.
    • Act as a resource for drivers, offering guidance on defensive driving techniques, route optimization, and customer service.
  • Backup Support for DART Manager:
    • Provide backup support to the DART manager as needed, assisting with program coordination, driver scheduling, and other operational tasks.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of all training sessions, certifications, driver performance evaluations, and incident investigations.
    • Provide regular reports to management on training outcomes, driver performance, incident trends, and areas for improvement.
  • Emergency Response:
    • Be available to assist in emergency situations, such as vehicle breakdowns or incidents, providing guidance and support to drivers as needed.
  • Travel Between Terminals:
    • Travel between company terminals as needed to conduct training, perform inspections, and provide support.
    • Be flexible to work at different locations within the Doylestown, PA area and surrounding regions.
  • Other Duties as Assigned:
    • Perform other related duties as assigned by the CEO or immediate supervisor.
Required Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years of professional driving experience, preferably in paratransit, public transportation, or a similar field.
    • Previous experience in training or mentoring drivers is highly preferred.
    • Experience in wheelchair securement and working with clients who use mobility devices.
    • Experience in incident/collision review, investigation, and coordination with insurance companies is a plus.
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Valid driver’s license (Pennsylvania license required).
    • Clean driving record with no major violations.
    • Must pass a criminal background check, motor vehicle record check, and drug/alcohol screening.
  • Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of defensive driving techniques, vehicle operations, and safety protocols.
    • Expertise in wheelchair securement and assisting clients with mobility devices.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively train and mentor drivers.
    • Basic computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
    • Ability to adapt to new technologies and training methods.
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for incident investigation and reporting.
  • Education:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Additional certifications in driver training, safety, or transportation are a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in paratransit or wheelchair-accessible vehicle operations.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with using tablets, GPS systems, and other technology used in modern transportation.
  • Previous experience working with insurance companies or conducting incident investigations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, and drive for extended periods.
  • Must be able to demonstrate and teach proper vehicle operation, including wheelchair securement and passenger assistance.
  • Ability to lift and maneuver mobility devices as needed during training and client interactions.
