Lead Teacher
The Bucksport Area Child Care Center is seeking an experienced Lead Teacher for our Toddler program.
To excel in this role, the Lead Teacher must love working with children, have an open mind, a positive attitude, and a willingness to oversee children ages 18months to 2 1/2 years. This position is an integral part of our childcare team and will assist in planning and implementing daily schedules and curriculum.

Reports to: Center Director
OVERVIEW
The Lead Teacher oversees staff, monitors student behavior, develops lessons, and maintains positive, collaborate working relationships with parents and organizational partners.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Demonstrate respect, kindness, and care for each child
- Develop and oversee age appropriate curriculum in reading writing, math, and reasoning; develop and oversee interactive activities for children that promote physical development, self-esteem, and social skills
- Track children's developmental progress
- Uphold all classroom norms and behaviors; implement BACCC policies and procedures
- Provide emotional support and guidance to children in need of extra care, attention, or assistance
- Communicate with parents/guardians and families during pick-up and drop-off and via BrightWheel
- Develop and maintain a positive working relationship with employees, students, parents/guardians, and community partners
- Maintain classroom materials, equipment, and arranged spaces
- Create a safe, inviting, pleasant, and tidy atmosphere for children
- Notifies Director of unusual behaviors, health, or physical conditions warranting attention
- Oversee the performance of Assistant Teachers in collaboration with the Center Director

Maine's Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Workforce Salary Supplement Program
BACCC staff are eligible for Maine's Early Childhood Educator (ECE) Workforce Salary Supplement Program. The program provides salary supplements to child care providers and early childhood educators who work directly with children in licensed facilities or family child care programs.
The program is based on a tiered system that considers the educator's level of education and experience, as well as the number of workers per tier and available funding. In January 2024, lawmakers increased the monthly supplement to up to $625.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 years of age
- Experience working with children or a completed Child Development Associate Training or degree in early childhood education is preferred but we are willing to train and mentor new childcare professionals
- Physical ability to perform all necessary duties, including walking, swimming, reaching, lifting, eye-hand coordination, actively standing/monitoring, sitting/playing with children
- Approved Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) and Background Check
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred
- Ability to perform work requested by Lead Teacher
- Willingness to participate in professional development opportunities that enhance the center’s performance and strengthen work performance
HOURS
BACCC is open after and before standard business operating hours to support working families. However, the Lead Teacher will be scheduled to work Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m to 4:30 p.m.
COMPENSATION
$15.50-17.50 based on experience and qualifications
