Job Title: New Jersey Service Center General Manager
Department: National Operations
Reports To: VPIO
Role Summary
The SCM will be responsible for managing their designated Service Center Facility. In addition, they will plan and organize an effective, profitable household goods warehouse operation. The SCM will ensure careful tracking and handling of transferee’s household property into and out of storage. The SCM will recruit warehouse labor per specific goals for Service Center set by Director of Operations.
Role Accountabilities and Responsibilities
Oversee warehouse procedures and policies to achieve the highest quality, safety, security and efficiency.
Manage, oversee and hold responsibility for all inbound and outbound storage procedures; i.e.: proper checkoff, usage of Warehouse Exception form, No Tag Inventory, Pallet Sheets, and correct separation of early delivery out of storage or extra stop items.
Oversee all record documentation, including Warehouse databases, transfers, payroll, etc.
Provide a monthly warehouse statistics report encompassing pallet count, storage usage and workspace availability.
Maintain and authorize all payroll hours of Service Center employees (review and approve).
Responsible for ensuring company drivers submits all appropriate receipts and expense reports on a weekly basis to BVL Operations Department for auditing and validation.
Responsible for recruiting local service providers to handle increase in workflow during peak seasons.
Request and coordinate all warehouse purchases through the central P.O. system, and coordinate equipment needs with Fleet Manager to be approved by Director of Operations.
Oversee DOT requirements specific to the state(s) and in accordance with the Fleet Manager’s direction.
Manage and oversee all aspects of DOT and Safety compliance at your assigned service center to ensure 100% compliance as directed by Fleet/ Safety Manager.
Assist, maintain, and monitor all vendors for services and materials, as well as maintain quality standards of all assigned equipment.
Perform Daily inspections of all vehicles in yard, to ensure mechanical safety, state of cleanliness, fully equipped and ready to go, and ensure inspection forms are forwarded to Director of Operations.
Responsible for the scheduling and utilization of employees and local drivers during peak season.
Implementation of, and responsibility for, the service provider/warehouse training in Budd Van Lines Signature Services, residence protection, packing, unpacking, loading, unloading, and paperwork.
Control Service Center daily functions; including all household goods (HHG) tonnage in and out, storage accesses with customers, damage repairs to potential claims, packing material distribution, and debris consolidation/removal.
Address concerns/needs of Planning, Dispatch, Fleet and Customer Service (as related to respective regions).
Perform annual reviews and disciplinary actions for warehouse employees; conduct interviews and recommend selection of qualified candidates for onboarding.
Update warehouse location database daily with changes in pallet position, loose item location, and shipments loaded into or out of storage; prepare warehouse location sheet for job file; query warehouse location database for the location of pallets and loose items one day prior to the scheduled load out date, in addition to monitor and manage process of packing material inventory levels, maintain packing control ledger, document and control the release and return of all packing material on inter-company transfers.
Coordinate with Planning/Central Dispatch to schedule for deliveries into and out of storage.
Maintain forklift certification; and certifications/licenses for all forklift operators. Provide necessary paperwork to Facilities/Safety in Corporate office.
Submit all chargebacks in a timely manner.
Support and enforce all company procedures and policies, State and Federal laws and regulations.
Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years Warehouse or Facility supervisory within a Household Goods Moving and Storage industry.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent
Computer Skills: Strong working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Access, Word), Database Management.
Other: Able to lead others by example, excellent communication skills, self-motivated, hands-on worker and extremely detail oriented and possess strong analytic skills.
