Job Description:
Buddy Up for Life (BUFL) is a non-profit organization that exists to serve individuals with Down syndrome by providing a fun, active, and supportive environment for our Athletes and Students to grow both physically and personally by engaging in activities that impact athletic, social, and emotional development.
BUFL provides uniquely designed programs through three pillars of impact; Health & Wellness (Tennis, Fitness, Pickleball, Cardio & Core, and Zumba), Education (Safety, Cooking, Communication, Finance, and Technology), and Friendship (Summer Camp and Connections).
BUFL is seeking a Volunteer Manager that will be responsible for assisting the Health & Wellness and Education Directors with various tasks in the ongoing recruitment, retention, and management of participants, primarily volunteers, in programming across chapters both in Columbus and nationwide.
General Information:
- Paid position with competitive and negotiable wage
- Part-Time; 15 - 30 Hours / Week, including afternoons / evenings, and Saturdays
- In-Person at Corporate Headquarters based in New Albany, OH and additional program locations throughout the Columbus, OH Metropolitan Area
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement innovative strategies to attract new volunteers
- Serve as the first point of contact for new volunteer (Buddy) applicants
- Collaborate closely with the marketing team to promote volunteer recruitment efforts
- Assess and evaluate the volunteer training process, streamlining and expanding as necessary
- Coordinate and participate in Buddy Boot Camps (volunteer training) in collaboration with Class Instructor/Coach
- Manage and maintain the volunteer database, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records
- Maintain ongoing communication with volunteer buddies through updates, including a monthly newsletter and/or other relevant communication channels
- Lead volunteer appreciation initiatives to acknowledge and celebrate volunteers’ contributions
- Build and maintain relationships with community, corporate, and volunteer resource partners to enhance volunteer opportunities and engagement
Requirements:
Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
- Must have experience and/or familiarity working with individuals with Down syndrome or developmental disabilities
- Must have experience in a managerial position overseeing a program and/or direct reports
- Previous experience working in special education is preferred
- Must have experience with Google Suite including Gmail, Docs, Slides, and Sheets
- Proficiency with Canva or similar graphic design tool preferred
- Prior experience with non-profit organizations preferred
- Must be adaptable and willing to take on additional responsibilities and tasks as directed in order to meet program goals
- Must have excellent communication skills; must be confident, outgoing, and able to work effectively with multiple personality types
