In Short:
The Material Handler is responsible for handling all incoming and outgoing inventory for their assigned area and building. The work often involves packing materials for moving, and unloading and loading material and finished product. They typically use motorized equipment like forklifts to move material to and from storage or production areas and delivery trucks. Material Handlers are also responsible for ensuring that production areas are always stocked and ready to fulfill orders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Participate in mandatory stretching exercise program
- Receive direction and work orders from Department Supervisor
- Verify that tools and equipment are in proper working condition
- Verify the accuracy of quantity and quality of incoming material
- Make sure packaging is secure and intact, labeled properly and sent to inventory
- Keep track of daily production by accurately and timely data entry
- Handle returns by completing Operations Return process and required communication
- Keep all material handling equipment in the best condition by conducting daily inspection
- Track cutting stock processed each shift
- Inventory stock and/or finished product
- Supply assigned department with needed materials
- Load stock onto roller conveyors
- Assist machine operators as needed
- Setup orders for shipping as required
- Ensure product meets quality standards
- Process required paperwork and enter production data in the computer
- Follow all safety regulations
- Maintain an organized and neat work area
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Certification in forklift operation
- Product knowledge
- Knowledge of operating heavy equipment or forklift experience
- Able to work with minimal supervision, be proactive, and able to oversee others effectively
- Effective leadership and team management skills
- Data entry, math and computer skills
- Written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Physically fit with the ability to lift objects weighing between 50-100 pounds
