Description
The Director of Medical Services and Quality is responsible for the oversight and management of the consistency and quality of all medical services, at all campuses, provided by Buena Vista Health and Recovery. This includes, but is not limited to, training and supervision of medical staff, program delivery, compliance with all laws and regulations, and documentation review. This director drives continual improvement of care delivery and compliance with applicable medical standards and regulations through training, education, coordination, and by measuring accountability and compliance.
As a member of the executive team, the Director of Medical Services and Quality works closely with the executive leadership team and staff at all campuses to ensure medical operations and considerations are considered in and aligned with all strategic decisions and objectives.
Duties and responsibilities
- Collaborates with the campus nursing leaders to provide and ensure the oversight of, development of, and adherence to patient care policies, procedures, and medical practice standards.
- Stays abreast of Joint commission, payor, state and federal regulatory changes to medical practice, implements necessary changes and ensures all nursing services are being delivered in accordance.
- Assists campus leadership and Chief Medical Officer to recruit, hire, and support Medical Services staff (nursing and providers).
- Directly oversees the routine review and revision of medical chart audits, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and effectiveness of operations.
- Develops and deploys nursing policies, objectives, and initiatives for the department and reviews departmental operations to ensure compliance with established standards.
- Assists the Chief Medical Officer to develop and implement provider education and attends regularly scheduled medical executive meetings.
- Works with Chief Medical Officer and campus providers to establish consistent medical admissions criteria
- Collaborates with the Human Resources department and others to create, teach, and implement medical training programs to assist in the overall success of the medical department and organization.
- Manages the medical vendor relationships including but not limited to the Pharmacy, Lab, and medical staffing vendors.
- Coordinates with the Executive Directors and campus Directors of Nursing to facilitate regular communication as needed to drive consistency and quality of care at each campus location.
- Manages company’s Infection Control Program and policies and ensures the implementation of best practices by training and educating employees.
- Manages the internal employee vaccination programs.
- Develops the overall competency level of nursing staff and coordinates quality enhancement and process improvement tasks.
- Ensures Medication Administration Programs are optimized for all patient population.
- Provides input to performance management of campus nursing leadership.
- Takes accountability for strategic projects, initiatives, and objectives in their capacity as executive team member.
- Reviews and approves medical staff time-cards, as necessary.
- Provides coverage of Directors of Nursing roles, as necessary.
- Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications and Skills Required
- Active Arizona Nursing License
- 6 years of nursing experience, with minimum of 4 years consisting of management/administrative/director of nursing experience
- Knowledgeable in accreditation, Arizona state and federal regulations
- Current BLS/First Aid/CPR/CPI certifications and level one fingerprint clearance card or ability to obtain immediately upon hire
- Working knowledge of HIPAA and PII Security Requirements
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain a positive collaborative relationship among staff
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing or Hospital Administration Required
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Nurse Practitioner (NP), preferred.
