What are the responsibilities and job description for the Head Track & Field Coach position at BUENA VISTA UNIVERSITY?
Buena Vista University, an NCAA Division III institution and member of the American Rivers Conference, is accepting applications for the position of Head Track & Field Coach. Candidates should have a high commitment to the student-athletes' success academically and athletically, a strong coaching background, and demonstrated success recruiting student-athletes. A director-level role may be considered for candidates with a proven track record of success at the collegiate level and applicable experience.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Plan and direct athletic skill development for the Track and Field student-athletes.
- Recruit student-athletes in accordance with the mission of Buena Vista University, the American Rivers Conference, and the NCAA, and the goals of the Track and Field program.
- Monitor student-athlete academic performance and implement team, athletics department, and University measures to support their academic performance.
- Successfully work with university personnel to retain student-athlete players at the institution.
- Advise student-athletes and staff of applicable intercollegiate athletic rules, regulations, and University policies and ensure compliance with such regulations.
- Evaluate the performance of the assistant coach.
- Work within the budgetary guidelines established by the Athletics Director.
- Assist the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach in developing and conducting pre-season, in-season, and off-season training and conditioning programs for the track and field team.
- Cooperate with the University Athletic Trainers to ensure student-athletes receive proper medical attention and physical training services.
- Coordinate all activities in preparation for the scheduled competition.
- Work with the Athletics Director on the selection and scheduling of team contests.
- Work with alumni student groups, the University administration, and community groups to seek support for the team.
- Attend all team practices and home/away contests.
- Attend appropriate athletics departmental staff meetings.
- Assist the Athletics Director in resolving cases where a student-athlete violates an applicable regulation.
- Gym, field, and facility supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree is required.
- A master’s degree is preferred.
- Three years of experience coaching at the collegiate level is preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
This position is not eligible for an employer-sponsored visa, and all applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. A background check will be conducted on the final candidate.
