Butterfly Interpreter (Seasonal, May–August)
Location: Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens
Overview:
Butterfly Interpreters enhance visitor experiences inside the seasonal Butterfly Experience exhibit. Responsibilities include visitor engagement, exhibit maintenance, butterfly care, and public education, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcome and guide visitors; manage exhibit entry/exit protocols.
- Educate guests on butterflies, plants, and conservation topics through public programs.
- Monitor butterfly health and support their care, including releases.
- Maintain cleanliness and safety of the exhibit space.
- Ensure adherence to USDA and garden policies.
- Collaborate with staff and volunteers to ensure smooth traffic flow and visitor satisfaction.
Team & Culture:
- Represent the Botanical Gardens positively to all guests and stakeholders.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and cooperative environment.
- Support DEIA efforts and uphold organizational values and mission.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and some evenings.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience in education, public engagement, or work in gardens/museums preferred.
- Passion for nature, insects, and environmental education.
- Strong communication and public speaking skills.
- Ability to work in warm, humid conditions for extended periods.
