Position Purpose: The Buffalo Federation of Neighborhood Centers (BFNC) is seeking a dynamic and motivated Settlement House Coordinator to join our team. This full-time position focuses on supporting and expanding after-school programming for youth ages 9–12 while strengthening connections between the community, schools, and families. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong leadership skills who thrives in community-based work, possesses excellent relationship-building abilities, and demonstrates creativity in developing youth engagement activities.
Primary Position Responsibilities:
Program Development & Implementation:
· Coordinate and oversee the day-to-day operations of the after-school program, ensuring engaging and developmentally appropriate activities for youth.
· Develop innovative and creative programs that focus on STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math), literacy, self-esteem, and social-emotional development.
· Plan and lead experiential learning activities and field trips that align with program goals.
· Ensure that program activities meet the needs of diverse youth populations and support holistic growth.
Community Engagement & Family Support:
· Build and maintain healthy, paraprofessional relationships with youth participants and their families.
· Attend community stakeholder meetings and represent BFNC at community events to promote program visibility and partnership opportunities.
· Act as a liaison between schools, families, and community organizations to enhance youth services.
· Conduct home visits when necessary to ensure consistent communication with families and provide additional support.
Collaboration & Communication:
· Work closely with school staff and other BFNC departments to ensure alignment of services and programs.
· Provide regular reports and updates to the Health Coordinator and Youth Services Program Director.
· Maintain positive working relationships with community partners, funders, and other stakeholders.
Administrative Duties:
· Monitor program budgets and ensure compliance with grant requirements.
· Maintain accurate records of attendance, program outcomes, and family engagement activities.
· Assist with grant reporting and other administrative tasks as assigned.
Physical & Logistical Requirements:
· Must be able to lift 15–20 pounds regularly.
· Frequent travel between schools and community sites is required. Candidate must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
· Flexibility in scheduling is essential. The majority of work will take place during after-school hours (Monday through Friday), with occasional evening or weekend events.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
· Must have use of an automobile and valid driver’s license
· Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Social Welfare, Health and Human Services or other social service field with at least 1 year of experience providing direct service (case management or counseling) to individuals or families.
· Possesses strong Emotional Intelligence, remaining calm and centered with an even temperament
· Works well independently as well as within a team setting, demonstrating superior interpersonal skills in collaborating with other providers and consumer- centered community support systems
· Demonstrated passion for working with people from all backgrounds and ages and providing person-centered care supported by Cultural Competency
· Must be knowledgeable about the social determinants of health
· Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong organizational and time management skills
· Strong negotiation, judgment, problem solving and change leadership skills
· Must exhibit a passion for BFNC’s vision, mission and values and act as a role model for agency values and responsible practices
