What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian Specialist position at Buffalo-Hanover-Montrose Schools?
- Assume responsibility for a building custodial operation in absence of a building Head Engineer.
- Assume responsibility for a Grounds Custodian in absence of a Grounds Custodian.
- Assume responsibility for a Maintenance Custodian in absence of a Maintenance Custodian.
- Deliver district inter-office mail deliveries when required.
- Maintain District grounds including mowing, edging, trimming trees and shrubbery, weed control, debris removal, over seeding, aerating.
- Clean sidewalks /steps.
- Remove snow/ice from walks, stairs, and parking lots.
- Assist with event setup.
- Maintain and prepare athletic fields.
- Clean, scrub, mop, dust, vacuum or sweeps floors, stairs, classrooms, kitchens, gyms, locker rooms, libraries, offices, commons, hallways, restrooms and other designated areas.
- Respond to emergency cleanup situations.
- Keep the district grounds shops clean and well maintained. Restock shelves with supplies.
- Maintain building and grounds security: secure building, lock and unlock buildings, as necessary and perform other security tasks.
- Assist in coordinating and overseeing daily completion of ground activities.
- Monitor and execute work orders based on timing of need, facility use, and personnel schedules.
- Ensure that all safety standards are met.
- Submit requests for repair of equipment after troubleshooting/attempting repair.
- Attends meetings and trainings as assigned.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Special Class Boiler’s License within 12 months of hire.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Previous grounds and/or custodial or other related experience preferred.
- Knowledge of proper lawn care, trimming, and marking of athletic fields.
- Knowledge of snow proper removal techniques.
- Knowledge of proper cleaning techniques.
- Ability to properly operate and maintain buildings and grounds equipment and tools.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to employ proper lifting techniques.
- Ability to manage email, work order system software, and HVAC system software.
- Ability to effectively communicate in written and oral formats with District staff and community members.
- Organizational and time management skills including prioritizing duties to meet deadlines.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Ability to safely work with cleaning and grounds products.
- Ability to follow all health and safety practices.

- This position provides supervision and work direction to building custodial staff in the absence of the building Head Engineer.
