Quality Control Technician (Concrete Ready Mix)

JOB SUMMARY:

Be responsible for performing concrete quality testing at our plant locations and customer project job sites. Work with project specifications and mix designs as needed to ensure material meets desired quality parameters. Coordinate and work under direction of management as needed.

DUTIES AND/ OR RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Conduct quality control testing on aggregate and concrete products including, but not limited to field testing (unit weight, air content, yield, slump, cylinders, etc.) as construction schedules dictate, complete accurate gradations of production aggregates, and lab work (compression testing and scheduling).· Work with and/ or prepare mix design submittals.

· Follow established quality control procedures to ensure concrete mixes produced meet customer's job-specific requirements.

· Read and understand project specifications.

· Prepare mix design submittals and distribute as needed.

· Test field cylinders in the lab using established quality control procedures and accurately record results.

· Maintain accurate and up to date documentation of testing completed with results.

· Be involved in completing mix and trial batches in advance of jobs within provided specifications.

· Maintain all testing equipment.

· Other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES:

· Understand, interpret, and use construction specifications and concrete mix designs.

· General knowledge of the properties, characteristics, and performance of concrete mixes, its components, additives, and raw materials.

· Competent in MS Office

· Capable of performing routine mathematical calculations, and ability to proficiently document.

· Strong problem solving, listening and communication skills.

· Ability to multitask and stay focused while dealing with various contractors, sales people, dispatchers, and other personnel.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position is either at a concrete plant or on customer job sites, working under both inside and outside conditions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to both listen and effectively speak with customers and BRC employees.

This position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling and climbing throughout the day.

You may be required to start early as construction schedules require.

The employee must have the ability to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

· Valid Class C Driver's License

· ACI Certified (American Concrete Institute), or ability to obtain within 6 months of hiring.

· Strong math, verbal and writing skills, along with the ability to, or learn to read construction plans and specifications.

· No previous QC or testing experience is required. We will train someone with the right attitude, is motivated and is willing to learn and be challenged. Preference will be given to applicants with prior QC, testing or construction experience.

· Must be able to pass initial and random DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements

· Must be able to read, write and speak in English

Pay: $20.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 – 60 per week
