The Position: BUL Buffalo H.O.P.E. (Helping Our People Equitably)
Buffalo H.O.P.E., formerly known as NY Project Hope, is an emotional support program for City of Buffalo residents. Community Health Mental Workers assist Buffalo community residents with:
- Help City of Buffalo residents cope with recent traumatic events, through assessments, referrals & linkage activities and providing wrap-around support.
- Offer City of Buffalo residents emotional support and stress reduction techniques.
- Promote psychoeducation to City of Buffalo residents to develop positive coping strategies.
- Empower City of Buffalo residents to explore their options as they recover from recent traumatic events.
Buffalo H.O.P.E. has an Emotional Support Helpline that is free and confidential.
Community Mental Health Worker
General Duties:
- Facilitate in-person and digital outreach activities.
- Provide services of assessment, referral, linkage, advocacy, monitoring and evaluation.
- Maintain Presence of Community Helpline.
- Facilitate wellness activities to promote community wellness.
- Provide emotional support and related services.
- Represents program in the community and networks with other agencies and partners to ensure clients' needs are met.
Specific Duties:
- Works with individuals, families, and groups to provide outreach, emotional support, individual and group emotional support, public education, wraparound services, and referrals when needed.
- Answers the helpline when scheduled.
- Provides presentations to community groups on disaster reactions, coping skills, and tress
management.
- Advocates on behalf of the client to ensure needed services are obtained.
- Utilizes Motivational Interviewing techniques to increase likelihood of engagement.
- Development and distribution of educational materials.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma plus 1-2 years of experience in a Mental Health or Human Services setting (required).
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Mental Health, Human Services or related field; and at least one year experience in case management or implementing client services (preferred).
- Working knowledge of computers and computer software.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to carry out assignments without direct supervision.
- Any foreign languages spoken, a plus.
- The ability to travel within WNY to provide services to the community.
- Ability to work flexible hours.

others.
