JOB TITLE: Driver - Transportation (Full-Time position)

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Drives vehicle from individual or central loading area to social services or rehabilitation center, training location, job site, or other destination according to assigned schedule.
- Assists disabled passengers into and out of vehicle.
- Secures passengers' wheelchairs to restraining devices to stabilize wheelchairs during trip.
- Operates cellular phone to communicate with main facility or other vehicles to report disruption of service.
- Completes pre-departure safety check on vehicle driven that includes: checking oil, water and gasoline levels; wear on tires; lights, wipers and heat/air in working order.
- Cleans and services vehicle with fuel, lubricants, and accessories, and notifies supervisor of needed repairs. Assists in maintaining a clean, neat and safe vehicle for transporting.
- Keeps records of trips and behavior of passengers, and communicates pertinent information to appropriate staff.
- Adheres to State and local speed limits and adjusts speed according to weather conditions. Only uses cellular phone when not operating vehicle unless using hands free device.
- Follows all Federal, State and local laws governing the operation of a motor vehicle and the transporting of individuals.
- Refrains from the use of alcohol and other mood-altering chemicals during the times of operation of a motor vehicle used to transport patients.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Some computer skills. Ability to type 30 wpm.
- Able to communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Works cooperatively with case management team members and BVI support staff.
- Flexible in days and hours available for work.
- Demonstrates supportive, positive approach towards homeless residents.
- Dedicated to compliance with BVI policies and procedures, and adheres to Staff Code of Ethics
- Keeps a current CPR and First Aid certifications
- Pass Background Check and Drug Screen required
- Valid TN D.L. with "F" endorsement required; "F" endorsement can be obtained once hired.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Six (6) months experience working in chemical dependency or related field, or educational equivalent
- Must have safe driving record, required
- High School Diploma or GED, preferred
