Sports and Fitness Specialist (SFS) (Part-time, 25 hours a week)
BUILD, Inc. (Broader Urban Involvement and Leadership Development) is presently seeking a committed, self-motivated, and innovative individual to join our team. BUILD is a nationally respected gang intervention, violence prevention, and youth development organization based on Chicago’s West Side. Since 1969, BUILD has worked to save lives and mentor young people who live in the city’s most challenged neighborhoods. We are seeking a part-time (20 hours per week) Sports & Fitness Specialist (SFS) to support the delivery of engaging sports and fitness programs at the BUILD campus, partner schools, and other community locations. This role is perfect for someone passionate about mentoring youth, promoting wellness, and introducing diverse sports experiences to youth and adults of all skill levels. Facilitators must be excellent role models, able to connect with youth from various backgrounds, and represent BUILD positively in all interactions. The (SFS) reports directly to the Sports & Fitness Manager (SFM).

Key Responsibilities
- Sports and Fitness Education: Lead sports and fitness activities that are fun, inclusive, and tailored to the needs of participants. Introduce youth to new and exciting sports and wellness opportunities through regular programming and special events.
- Youth Mentoring: Serve as a mentor and positive role model, fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for youth. Ensure all participants feel included and encouraged, regardless of skill level or experience.
- Community Engagement: Work collaboratively with BUILD staff, partners and other community-based organizations to coordinate and deliver sports programs for a variety of stakeholders. Always represent BUILD with professionalism and integrity.
- Resource Management: Assist in managing gardening supplies, tools, and materials. Maintain accurate records of garden activities, inventory, and participant progress.
- Outreach and Advocacy: Promote the benefits of physical activity and sports participation through community outreach and educational materials. Advocate for safe spaces for youth and adults to participate in wellbeing activities.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other staff members, volunteers, and local partners to coordinate sports activities and support broader fitness initiatives in the community.
- Minimum one year of experience working with youth
- Enthusiastic about sports, fitness, and mentoring youth.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Flexible, adaptable, and open to trying new activities or approaches.
- Demonstrated committment to positive youth development.
- Proficiency with technology (Microsoft Office), and ability to assist with data entry
- Successful completion of a background check and other required clearances.
- Part-time, flexible schedule with weekday and evening/weekend availability required.
- Must be able to move from sitting to standing multiple times per day.
- Prolonged periods of physical activity, including setting up equipment and participating in sports activities.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
