Position Overview

BUILD Institute seeks a dynamic and visionary Executive Director to lead the organization through its next phase of growth and impact. The Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing programs, budgets, fundraising, partnerships, and organizational strategy to empower women and minority-owned businesses.

Working closely with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will ensure BUILD's mission is executed effectively while driving operational excellence, expanding community partnerships, and securing resources to sustain and grow our impact. The ideal candidate is a collaborative leader with a passion for entrepreneurship, economic development, and social equity.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Provide visionary leadership to advance BUILD’s mission, values, and strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to develop and implement strategic initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary advocate and spokesperson for BUILD, strengthening its presence at local, regional, and national levels.

Fundraising & Financial Management

  • Develop and implement fundraising strategies to secure diverse funding streams, including grants, corporate partnerships, individual donors, and philanthropic contributions.
  • Oversee financial planning and management, ensuring responsible budgeting and fiscal accountability.
  • Build and maintain relationships with funders, partners, and stakeholders to support BUILD’s sustainability and growth.
  • Operations & Program Oversight

  • Supervise and support staff leadership, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
  • Ensure the effective implementation of BUILD’s programs, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and community needs.
  • Oversee operational processes, policies, and procedures to enhance organizational efficiency and impact.
  • Community Engagement & Advocacy

  • Strengthen and expand partnerships with community organizations, government agencies, and private-sector partners to amplify BUILD’s reach and influence.
  • Advocate for policies and initiatives that support micro-business development and economic mobility for underrepresented entrepreneurs.
  • Represent BUILD in public forums, media engagements, and networking events to elevate the organization’s visibility.
  • Key Qualifications

  • Proven Leadership : Demonstrated experience in executive or senior leadership roles, preferably in nonprofit management, economic development, or entrepreneurship.
  • Fundraising & Resource Development : Strong track record of securing and managing diverse funding sources, including grants, sponsorships, and donor relations.
  • Financial & Operational Oversight : Experience in budget management, strategic planning, and nonprofit administration.
  • Community Engagement : Experience working with diverse communities, particularly BIPOC and women entrepreneurs.
  • Strategic Thinking : Ability to set and execute long-term organizational goals while navigating challenges effectively.
  • Strong Communication Skills : Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to inspire and mobilize stakeholders.
  • Collaboration & Team Development : Skilled at building and leading high-performing teams.
  • Education : A master’s degree in business, Public Policy, Urban Planning, Public Administration, or a related field is a plus but not required.

    Salary is commensurate with experience.
