Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and mechanically inclined individual to join our Hardware Department as a Lock Specialist. In this role, you will be responsible for keying locks according to customer specifications, assembling lock packages for orders, and maintaining an organized and efficient work environment. The ideal candidate has strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and a customer-focused mindset.
Key Responsibilities
- Lock Keying & Assembly
- Key locks and cylinders based on customer requirements and manufacturer specifications.
- Assemble lock packages (knobs, levers, deadbolts, and other lock components) for customer orders.
- Order Fulfillment
- Review work orders to confirm lock specifications, keying instructions, and lock package details.
- Ensure each lock package order is accurately assembled, labeled, and ready for delivery or pickup.
- Quality Control & Inventory Management
- Inspect completed lock packages for accuracy and quality prior to delivery.
- Assist in maintaining accurate inventory of lock components, key blanks, and related hardware.
- Track and report any discrepancies to the Inventory Specialist.
- Customer & Team Support
- Collaborate with sales teams and other departments to clarify project requirements and provide accurate lock packages.
- Offer technical expertise and guidance to coworkers and customers regarding lock specifications and keying options.
- Respond to customer inquiries and provide exceptional service when questions arise about lock products or key systems.
- Safety & Maintenance
- Follow all company and industry safety protocols while handling tools and hardware.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work station.
- Report any equipment issues or safety hazards to the Hardware Manager promptly.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience in lock keying, locksmithing, or a related hardware role is strongly preferred.
- Technical & Mechanical Skills:
- Familiarity with different lock types, key systems, and lock hardware components is preferred.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand tools, power tools, and key-cutting machines.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting order forms, lock specifications, and keying charts.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented environment and adapt to changing work demands.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, bend, or lift for extended periods (up to 8 hours).
- Comfortable working with small parts and handling repetitive tasks.
- Capable of lifting and moving hardware materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
