Position Summary
The Product Manager is a key contributor to the Underwriting leadership team, with primary responsibility for overseeing the general liability (admitted and non-admitted) and commercial auto lines of business. This includes driving profitability, growth, market dynamics, current and emerging trends, and product innovation, while providing strategic direction on risk selection, pricing, and territory segmentation. The effective management of these lines is achieved by applying a strong data-driven approach and developing inter-departmental collaboration and close coordination with the Actuarial, Finance, Sales, and Marketing teams.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Underwriting, Finance and Sales leadership to establish line of business goals that align with and support the achievement of annual plan objectives.
- Analyze the performance of general liability and commercial auto products across different states and territories.
- Create comprehensive reports and provide analytical insights on product performance in relation to set goals and benchmarks.
- Establish and monitor state-permissible ultimate loss ratios to ensure alignment with business objectives.
- Evaluate pricing strategies by territory to develop targeted segmentation solutions.
- Conduct research leveraging in-depth product knowledge to identify opportunities for product enhancements and innovations that drive profitable growth.
- Maintain underwriting and risk selection guidelines to ensure consistency and accuracy in risk evaluation.
- Stay informed about industry trends and competitive developments, including insights into the independent agency distribution channel, InsurTech advancements, Artificial Intelligence and predictive modeling.
- Engage in ongoing professional development to remain up-to-date on best practices and emerging industry trends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in risk management, statistics, mathematics, or similar discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Ten or more years of progressively responsible experience in underwriting; Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) certification (is preferred)
- Skill in critical thinking and analysis, problem solving and prioritization; ability to evaluate situations and make appropriate recommendations
- Skill in organizational and time management with attention to detail, ensuring tasks and deliverables are executed with accuracy and precision
- Skill in verbal and written communication, facilitating clear and effective exchange of information; ability to present concise reports and recommendations to all levels of management
- Ability to function independently as well as collaborate in a team environment with skill in interpersonal communication and the ability to multi-task
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite with a strong knowledge of Excel, with emphasis on formulas, pivot tables, v-lookup, and similar tools to manipulate large quantities of data; ability to learn and utilize function specific technology
