Builders Surplus is seeking a motivated and experienced Customer Service Associate to join our team. The ideal candidate will have customer service, point-of-sale, and warehouse experience. This role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to handle customer inquiries, and proficiency in processing transactions while maintaining a strong understanding of warehouse operations. Additionally, we are looking for someone who is looking to move forward within the company. WE are open to training someone to become a Kitchen Designer and/or Customer Door/Window Specialist. Key Responsibilities
- Provides the highest level of customer service to all customers with the main objective of providing customers with a positive buying experience
- Answers telephone inquiries pleasantly and promptly, utilizing customer service skills as described in company training manual
- Provides customer with product information as requested and probes customer to uncover additional product needs the customer may have currently or in the future
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge of products sold, specifications for those products, as well as maintaining a general knowledge of the pricing of said products
- Attempts to increase the sale to the customer by asking questions to uncover other product needs of the customer and offerings product suggestions and pricing with follow-up as needed
- Handles minor complaints of customer and brings to resolution, asking for assistance from store manager as needed
- Uses listening skills to determine the product needs of the customer accurately, as well as gathering facts to solve a customer complaint satisfactorily, for the customer and the company.
- Complies with company procedures and policies on sales transactions, credits, refunds, cash and check management, and other paperwork functions required in the routine course of daily business
- Performs duties in a safe manner. Reports any unsafe condition or issue to store manager, and always works in a safe manner, including using safe lifting techniques
- Complies with company dress code as described in the Company Handbook and training manual
- Assists in merchandising showroom products with signage and samples, while assuring displays are in clean and bright condition
- Works as a team player with other employees
- Assists store manager or other employees as needed
- Other tasks as assigned by the supervisor or store manager
Minimum Qualifications (please note you will not be considered for the role if you do not meet these requirements)
- Point-of-Sale System experience
- Customer Service experience, specifically in a building material environment
- Willingness to learn more about the business, specifically kitchen design and custom orders
- Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word & Excel
- Experience with data entry
- Knowledge of customer service principles and practices
- Ability to work Saturdays
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with the lumber industry or other building materials
- Forklift certification or experience
