What are the responsibilities and job description for the Inventory Control Specialist - (Full-time) position at Builders Warehouse?
Summary: Maintains inventory control at the Division’s location. Be involved in almost every role within field operations to keep things processing properly. Ensure that inventory processes and procedures are done properly and in a timely manner. Assist Finance, Operations, Sales, Delivery, Receiving, etc… - this is a job that supports every corner of the business.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains inventory control on stock and special order product – counting merchandise, investigates any discrepancies between merchandise and stock status, posts corrections to inventory, and communicates to Division Manager when adjustments are made.
- Removes damaged merchandise from inventory.
- Coordinate, conduct, and log physical inventories. Research cycle count variances to find the root cause of the issues and to keep the problem from reoccurring. Communicate to the Division Manager when adjustments are made and your findings during your research.
- In Cooperation with the Division Manager, facilitate yearly audit.
- Reports the monthly inventory shrinkage to the Division Manager.
- Notifies and offers/develops solutions to management of any inventory adjustment due to damage, overages/shortages, or returns for any other reason and helps to reduce/eliminate the opportunities for inventory shrink.
- Helps to monitor and facilitate processing of Returned SPO, Slow Move, and Obsolete inventory.
- Runs end of month reports and inventory reports such as Aged/Returned SPO Report, Negative Inventory Report, etc.… for operational analysis. Investigates any discrepancies.
- Helps Administer Open Order/PO Reports. Assist sales reps in keeping report/orders updated.
- Helps to monitor and facilitate the timely and proper processing of all orders (sales orders, work orders, purchase orders, stock receipts, transfers) and credit notes with the cooperation of Sales and Receiving under the support of Division Management.
- Maintains inventory files to ensure FIFO accounting of merchandise. Informs Division Manager of inventory file errors (mispriced, misreceived, missold, etc.) and reconciles with direction from Division Manager.
- Provides general administrative support to Yard personnel and Division Manager.
- Maintains knowledge of products/vendors in the Division.
- Maintains and promotes a safe working environment and follows all safety rules.
- Be a mentor – Train and help new Team Members with the proper processes to adapt and succeed as a Builders Team Member.
- Promotes team building concept.
- Complies with all company policies and procedures.

Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.
Experience: Office skills helpful, but not necessary.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office, primarily Excel and Outlook.
- Detail oriented.
- Able to prioritize and meet deadlines.
- Ability to effectively present information one on one and small group situations.
- Ability to perform routine mathematical calculations – possess good math skills.
- Ability to carry out written or oral instructions.
- Good interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit and/or stand for 4 hours minimum and 8 hours maximum.
- Regularly lift and/or move 25 lbs. Occasionally lift and/or move 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb, kneel, squat, and bend.
