What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavioral Health Technician position at Building Blocks Pediatric Therapy?
As a Behavior Technician at Building Blocks, you’ll get to work one-on-one with children, supporting them in ways that are fun, natural, and built around what they love. We focus on child-led play, so you’ll encourage kids to take the lead in activities, guiding their learning and development as they explore. Working closely with our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs), you’ll be part of creating personalized care plans that meet each child’s unique needs. Together, we build trust and celebrate each child’s growth through joyful, meaningful interactions!
Responsibilities
- Engage children in child-led play activities to foster growth, learning, and independence through hands-on, meaningful experiences.
- Implement individualized Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) programs, adapting play and activities to meet each child's unique developmental goals.
- Collaborate closely with Occupational Therapists (OTs) and Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) to integrate sensory, motor, and communication goals into daily sessions.
- Observe and document each child’s progress, noting behaviors, skills developed, and any challenges to support ongoing assessment and adjustments.
- Communicate regularly with team members to ensure a consistent, holistic approach across therapy plans.
- Build a safe, positive, and encouraging environment where children feel supported in exploring new skills.
Qualifications
- Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly with children, parents, and multidisciplinary team members, including OTs and SLPs, to ensure seamless care.
- Play-Based Engagement: Experience or training in child-led play approaches to encourage natural skill development and foster a positive therapeutic environment.
- Collaboration and Teamwork: Enthusiasm for working closely with a team of therapists to create holistic, individualized treatment plans.
- Adaptability: Flexibility to adjust approaches based on each child’s interests, sensory needs, and mood, tailoring activities to keep engagement high.
- Understanding of ABA Principles: Knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis techniques and how to apply them in fun, playful, and developmentally appropriate ways.
- Patience and Empathy: Ability to connect with children at their own pace, showing compassion and encouragement through their learning journey.
- Documentation Skills: Attention to detail for recording session data, progress, and behavioral observations in support of ongoing therapy assessments.
- Basic Sensory and Communication Knowledge: Familiarity with sensory integration and communication development techniques to effectively support OT and SLP goals.
