Summary of Position:
Full-time position for Building Crafts Inc., a general contractor working primarily in wastewater and water treatment plant construction. The senior accountant will perform day-to-day general accounting functions. The senior accountant will compute and prepare data for journal entries, general ledger, and related financial statements;
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintains accounts payable functions including but not limited to verifying invoices, expense reports, check requests, and purchase requisitions; entering data into the accounts payable system; and processing weekly check runs.
- Maintains accounts receivable functions including but not limited to applying payments to appropriate accounts, monthly invoicing, reconciling customer accounts, and handling customer inquiries.
- Backup for weekly payroll, including all tax payments and returns, benefit contributions, garnishments, W-2 forms and ensuring tax rates are correct.
- Assist in payroll tax filings and year-end reporting.
- Track and maintain state licensing and vehicle licensing for the company.
- Ensures current business licenses in all states.
- Assist in monthly financial reports.
- Prepares and analyzes monthly journals.
- Performs daily banking procedures.
- Analyzes and reconciles general ledger accounts.
- Prepares account analyzes and reconciliation.
- Coordinates implementation of accounting systems and accounting control procedures.
- Reviews and analyzes the organization's accounting operation; recommends improvements.
- Provides notary services for the needs of the company.
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field of study is preferred and 5-8 years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Proficient in accounting software, databases, Internet, order processing, payroll, and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.
- Demonstrated ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, and percentages.
- Commitment to excellence and high standards.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees.
- Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.
