What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Enrichment Assistant position at Building Hope in the City?
Position Summary
The Youth Enrichment Assistant will support BHITC’s mission by leading education-based programming that serves youth and families within Clark-Fulton and Stockyards (CFSY). This role assists with the creation and implementation of engaging and educational activities for students, and maintaining a safe and nurturing environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about youth and families and contributing to community development initiatives.
Position Details
- Part-time, non-exempt position
- This part-time position involves a variable work schedule, with weekly hours that may fluctuate throughout the year based on business needs, seasonal demands, or project requirements. While the total hours may vary, the weekly hours should average around 15 hrs/wk, with increased hours during peak periods or around events. The schedule will be communicated in advance and will likely consist of 20hrs/wk from September-May, and 10-40 hrs/per week from June-August. Hours may also include evenings and weekends for special events or programs.

Job Duties
- Help plan and implement age-appropriate activities and lessons for students
- Supervise and engage with youth in various activities ensuring a safe and positive environment.
- Support academic enrichment, including homework help, literacy development, and educational games
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and behavior
- Assist in behavior management, using positive reinforcement and conflict resolution techniques.
- Maintain a clean and organized classroom environment
- Collaborate with other staff members to ensure a cohesive and effective program
- Help coordinate meals and snacks, ensuring proper distribution and a welcoming mealtime atmosphere.
- Assist in planning and leading faith-based group activities, including Bible lessons, worship, and prayer time.
- Help with special programs and events, assist in planning, setup and breakdown.
- Plan activities for the student during programming that coincides with themes and lesson plans.
- Provide summer camp support - assist with planning programming, take the lead on assigned tasks and special projects
- Support special events, field trips, and community outreach initiatives.
Key Skills and Qualifications
- Valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle
- Clean driving record for insurance purposes
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience working with children in a classroom or after school setting
- Patience, empathy, and cultural awareness in working with diverse communities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to create and implement engaging and educational activities
- Flexibility and adaptability, including schedules
- Willing and able to attend training sessions, as needed
- Passion for working with children and making a positive impact on their lives
Physical and Other Requirements
- Able to drive and maneuver a passenger van
- Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods of time
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time
- Ability to work outdoors and engage in physical activities (walking, playing games, lifting light equipment, etc.).
