What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vehicle Mechanic I (2024-2025) - Transportation position at Bullitt County Schools?
This position is for the 2024-2025 school year.
Perform mechanical repair work, including preventative maintenance on school buses, trucks and other gas and diesel powered automotive equipment, and other repairs as assigned.
Duties will include:
1. Inspect all busses.
2. Make inspection of any reports coming from drivers indicating something potentially wrong with the bus.
3. Makes service calls to driver's homes, when necessary, to start bus.
4. Maintain cleanliness of the shop area.
5. Perform repair work on buses.
6. Punctual and regular in attendance.
7. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation.
Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and provide a copy to HR upon recommendation to hire
- Valid Kentucky CDL or willing to obtain CDL within about 90 days
- 1 year experience in general automotive repair.
This position is 8 hours per day for 260 days per year. Contracted hours will be adjusted based upon start date. (Considered full time with benefits - see below)
Step 0: $20.77 per hour
Step 10: $24.73 per hour
New employees to the district may bring in up to 10 years of comparable, full-time, verified experience. (NOTE: It will be the responsibility of the applicant hired to submit the BCPS verification of experience form to their prior employer to complete and return to HR.)
Although Classified positions are paid on an hourly rate, salary is set up on a year long contract and divided by the remaining number of paychecks. This position is considered a twelve month employee on the pay schedule.
