What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dispatcher/ Telecommunicator position at Bullitt County Sheriff's Office?
The Bullitt County Sheriff's Office is currently seeking dedicated and service oriented applicants for our E911 Dispatch Center. Our dispatch center answers emergency and non-emergency calls for Bullitt County and sends Law Enforcement, Fire Departments, and EMS responders to calls for assistance.
Essential Job Functions:
- Operate a multi-line telephone and alerting system
- Determine and assign the level of priority for emergency and non-emergency situations
- Enters information into a computer aided dispatch system
- Triage emergency medical calls using a dispatch protocol
- Monitor and operate a radio console
- Dispatch and coordinate responses of public safety agencies including law enforcement, fire departments and EMS
- Enters and modifies information into the NCIC (National Crime Information Center) database
Required skills include but are not limited to:
- Must be able to listen and calmly communicate during stressful situations
- The ability to develop and maintain cooperative and professional relationships with fellow employees, supervisors, and representatives from other departments
- The ability to use logic and reasoning to reach conclusions and approaches to problems
- The ability to think quickly
- The ability to follow instructions
- The ability to quickly and accurately enter information into a computer aided dispatch system
Minimum Requirements:
- Applicants must be at least 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Must pass a reading comprehension test
- Successfully consent to and pass a pre-employment drug screen
- Successfully consent to and pass a criminal background check and polygraph (must not have any felony convictions)
- Must consent to submit to fingerprint screening
- Must successfully pass a suitability screening
- Must have a flexible schedule to work day or evening shifts including weekends and holidays
- 12 hour shifts with rotating off days and a three day (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) weekend every other weekend
- Must be able to attend the 4 week Public safety Dispatch Academy which may be held virtually or on site at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, KY (within first year of employment)
- Must be able to work overtime with little notice
