POSITION SUMMARY:
The Benefits and Retirement Coordinator is responsible for administering employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other wellness initiatives. This role ensures compliance with applicable regulations, manages enrollment processes, and services as primary point of contact for employee inquiries regarding benefits, retirement and leave (paid parental leave, family medical leave, etc.). The coordinator works closely with external vendors. This position works in conjunction with the payroll department as it relates to benefits deductions and employee leave.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma/GED.
- Three years of experience in processing benefits/retirement information or other similar experience.
- Experience working with a diverse group of people.

- Must be able to provide a criminal background check with results that adhere to Bulloch County Board of Education Policy GAK(1).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience in all aspects of employee benefits to include major medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability insurance, flex accounts, worker’s compensation, FMLA/PPL, etc.
- Experience in working with K-12 education benefits and retirement.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Balances all benefit statements on a monthly basis.
- Processes weekly file uploads for benefit changes.
- Processes new hires and transfers in the Smartfusion personnel system.
- Processes annual open enrollment (reporting and uploading benefits information).
- Processes monthly benefit checks to vendors.
- Closes out fiscal year and uploading new fiscal year leave annually.
- Processes disability and life insurance claims.
- Checks leave on a monthly basis.
- Annually send ACA (affordable care act) files to our benefits vendor to process 1095-C forms.
- Processes all retiree forms and sick leave certification.
- Reports all retirees returning each fiscal year to appropriate carrier for approval.
- Processes retiree life issuance letters to ensure payments are received in a timely manner.
- Processes retirement forms for retirees.
- Processes workers comp, paid parental leave, and family medical leave documentation.
- Assists employees and retirees with benefits and benefit questions as needed.
- Scans necessary documents into files.
- Assists with the Sick Leave Bank process as needed.
- Assists with all HR related events such as new hire orientation, employee recruitment fair, etc.
- Performs other duties as requested.
PERFORMANCE FACTORS:

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or designated supervisor in accordance with Policy GBI - Evaluation of Personnel.
