POSITION SUMMARY:
The Communications Engineer is responsible for the research, design, development and implementation of communications equipment and systems including telephony services, fire alarm, radio and satellite communications, Internet and broadband technologies, and audio/visual systems.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- 2 Year Technical Degree or equivalent technical work experience.
- Experience working with a diverse group of people.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience conducting site surveys, designing and installing audiovisual solutions.
- Experience with telephony systems, fire alarm and control systems, video-conferencing, CCTV systems, switching hardware, intercoms, clocks and bells, and audio setup and calibration.
- Knowledge of networking fundamentals such as: TCP/IP, addressing, firewalls, routers, VLANs and VPN.
- Low Voltage Electricians license (General, Alarm, Telcom).
- Certifications: Bicsi Installer/Bicsi Technician.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Creates Engineering Design Packages (to include A/V control, video, audio, and networking schematics).
- Generates and submits List of Materials (LOM) and monitors the ordering of equipment and materials.
- Coordinates the requirements, integration, and implementation of control system programs.
- Troubleshoots and debugs various communication and AV systems.
- Completes training programs from manufacturers, industry associations, and companies as required.
- Sets up and installs media equipment such as LCD projectors, speakers, TVs, video monitors, and cameras.
- Sets up and installs communications equipment such as phones, intercoms, clocks and bells.
- Performs backup of system controls.
- Completes electrical wiring, programming, and basic construction.
- Provides electronic equipment repair service.
- Monitors and maintains fire alarm systems.
- Provides Level III technical support for users.
- Maintains professional knowledge and technical skill.
- Performs other duties as requested.
