The ideal candidate will be familiar with the intersection of politics and policymaking. They have an appetite for scoops, authoritative reporting and smart and thoughtful analysis. They will also be able to engage readers both in and outside the Beltway in a way that is relatable and fairly measures the stakes.The Bulwark is home to Tim Miller, Sarah Longwell, Bill Kristol, and many other leading voices and reporters. It is dedicated to providing political analysis and reporting free from partisan constraints or corporate interests. It publishes and broadcasts smart politics and culture commentary from a variety of viewpoints.Job DescriptionWrite regular analysis and feature news stories with the ability to contribute to newsletters, live coverage, podcasts, and video content Requires a deep interest in politics and a calling to bring colorful and fair reporting to a national audience Ability to deconstruct the nuance of how government, federal agencies and policymakers are changingInclude a robust source network across the political spectrumWork closely with reporters and editors on political, congressional and White House teams in a collaborative newsroom.QualificationsAt least 5 years of relevant work experience with previous reporting experience in a national media environment on a politics or policy-making beat.Deep familiarity with the inner workings of federal agencies, the White House, and their top policy priorities. Good audience instincts with a proven track record of reporting, writing and engagement.Ability to juggle multiple responsibilities under tight deadlines. Sound editorial judgment and newsgathering skills with the ability to isolate the most salient pieces of a discussion. Strong sense of project ownership and excitement for being an integral part of a growing organization.
