Our General Services department is looking to fill a Maintenance Technician II to join our dynamic team in a new state of the art facility. Each day in this role offers something different, as the tasks vary daily, so you'll never have the same routine. This is a mid-level position is great for those with a background in construction or facility maintenance. Purpose of the Position:

The purpose of this position is to be responsible for performing advanced level skilled work in the maintenance and repair of County buildings, equipment, grounds, and facilities.

Minimum Education, Training and/or Experience (required at time of hire): High school diploma or GED, and a minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in the aspect of trades, such as HVAC, electric, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, or painting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be 18 years of age or older.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation: Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license.

Essential Functions of the position:

  • Maintain, replace, and repair County buildings, facilities and grounds including, but not limited to, HVAC, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, painting, welding, and light electrical work.
  • Perform general carpentry work as part of construction, remodel, repair or alteration of floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, and screens.
  • Maintain heating and cooling systems, alarm systems, water systems and remove/replace doors.
  • Review work orders, construction plans, specifications, and technical instructions.
  • Applies knowledge of safety procedures when operating tools and working in machinery and moving mechanical parts.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Knowledge of the procedures, materials, and equipment related to plumbing, electrical, heating and air conditioning, fire alarms, carpentry, and painting trades.
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the maintenance trades involved in the work.
  • Knowledge of the applicable codes and regulations related to the maintenance work performed.
  • Skill in the use of a variety of hand and power tools necessary in performing mechanical, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and allied building repair, and maintenance work.
  • Ability to read and interpret a variety of records, receipts, technical diagrams, blueprints, specifications, and work orders.
  • Ability to operate a variety of equipment including mechanics tools, carpentry tools, electrical tools, plumbing tools, welding equipment, painting equipment, and common machine shop equipment.
  • Ability to utilize mathematical formulas; to add and subtract; multiply and divide; utilize decimals and percentages and understand and apply the theories of algebra.
  • Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or compositional characteristics (whether similar or divergent from obvious standards) of data, people, or objects.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
  • Ability to effectively and efficiently use mechanical and engineering terminology to communicate.
  • Maintain knowledge of the agency organizational rules, policies, procedures, services, and mission.
  • Plan, prioritize, and organize work effectively to produce quality work with measurable results and within identified deadlines.

All new employees are paid according to their years of relevant education and experience above minimum requirements for the position and employees have the opportunity to obtain pay increases via cost of living increases and promotions.
