Laser Welding Process Tech

Position Summary

The Weld Process Technician works closely with the Weld, Manufacturing, and Engineering teams to optimize and improve the safety, quality, and efficiency of current welding processes. Reports through Area Lead to Manufacturing Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyze weld processes for opportunities to improve safety, quality, and productivity through training, manufacturing, and design updates. Document and provide feedback to internal suppliers.
• Implement and maintain weld process sheets for each item to document standards and procedures, including fixture details and productivity rates.
• Develop and maintain a weld team skill matrix, focusing on safety, quality, and productivity.
• Create training criteria to support the skill matrix.
• Train the weld team to fulfill the skill matrix.
• Implement laser welding in production welding processes.
• Develop weld fixture processes and standards to meet APC quality standards.
• Prepare fixtures and first-offs for each item ahead of weld schedule requirements.
• Establish a Preventative Maintenance program for weld equipment and tools, tracking and administering maintenance tasks.
• Collaborate with weld suppliers and vendors to stay current with industry evolution.
• Work with the APC Automation Engineer on weld automation projects.

Requirements:

• 5 years of experience in TIG welding is required.
• Laser welding experience is preferred.
• Weld fixturing experience is preferred.
• Experience with weld process improvement is preferred.
• Knowledge of weld safety improvement is preferred.
• Technical expertise in welding practices is required.
• Production custom welding is required.

Education:

• A High School diploma or GED is required.
• Welding trade school experience is preferred.
• Any engineering experience and training are considered a plus.
