Job Summary
- Perform diagnostic ultrasound examinations, ensuring high-quality imaging for accurate diagnosis.
- Instruct patients regarding procedures to ensure cooperation and optimum test results and address any concerns.
- Operate and adjust ultrasound equipment to optimize image quality and diagnostic accuracy.
- Collaborate with radiologists and physicians to interpret ultrasound findings.
- Maintain detailed patient records and document imaging results in the hospital’s EMR system.
- Ensure compliance with hospital protocols, HIPAA regulations, and safety standards.
- Monitor and maintain ultrasound equipment, reporting malfunctions as necessary.
- Monitor and manage ultrasound equipment inventory and request necessary supplies.
- Assist in scheduling patients and managing workflow to ensure efficiency.
- Provide training and guidance to new staff and ultrasound students as needed.
- Stay up to date with advancements in ultrasound technology and continuing education requirements.
- Maintain accurate department records, reports, and files as directed.
- Ensure confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Collaborate effectively with team members within the radiology department and other departments.
- Document work processes as required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Requirements
- Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related field. Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Ultrasound Technology program is required.
- Certification/Licensure: ARDMS certification in one or more of the following areas: Abdomen, OB/GYN, Vascular, and Echo. State license and CPR-BLS for health care providers.
- Experience: Experience in vascular preferred.
- Skills: Proficiency in operating ultrasound equipment. Ability to take vital signs. Knowledge of quality control standards. Able to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong multitasking and organizational skills. Ability to maintain effective relationships with patients, medical staff, and peers. Strong interpersonal skills, including handling difficult interactions. Excellent telephone and communication skills.
Physical Requirements
- Adequate hearing and speaking for communication in person and over the phone.
- Frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting.
- Regular heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling throughout the shifts.
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, and medicinal preparations.
Working Conditions
- Work Environment: Primarily treatment and office based within the hospital, with occasional need to visit other clinical departments or other areas of the facility.
- Hours: As need position with no set guarantee of hours; schedule will be mutually agreed upon on an as-needed basis with continual re-evaluation by the radiology director; must be open to varied schedule.
- Stress Levels: Moderate to high levels of stress can be expected due to the fast-paced nature of the healthcare environment and multiple competing priorities.
- Interaction: Regular interaction with hospital staff, administration, and external partners. Requires strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Travel: Very limited travel may be required for attending off-site meetings or training sessions.
