Bunnell-Lammons Engineering, Inc. (BLE) is a growing company of over 200 engineers, geologists, technicians, and support staff with offices in Asheville, North Carolina, Greenville, South Carolina, and Columbia, South Carolina. BLE Asheville location provides geotechnical and environmental consulting and construction materials testing services to local and regional clients in commercial, residential, industrial, healthcare, institutional, waste management, and public sectors. We also provide specialized consulting and design services for dams, retaining walls, slopes, and this position is a key part of these specialized service offerings. The successful candidate will support the traditional geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing groups within the office as a geotechnical staff professional.


Job Description

As a Geotechnical Engineer at Bunnell Lammons Engineering, Inc. (BLE), you will assume a pivotal role in our organization's dedication to excellence within our Asheville Geotechnical Department. Geotechnical Engineers provide engineering and consulting services for a variety of projects and clients. This may include but is not limited to performing and/or leading geotechnical field investigations, computer modeling, engineering calculations, laboratory testing, design consultation, construction observation, and engineering reporting for consultation for landfills, mines, and other large industrial construction projects.


Responsibilities:

  • The scope of assignments will range from scope, fee and proposal development, for geotechnical projects.
  • Performing geotechnical evaluations for projects including settlement, slope stability, seepage, and retaining wall design.
  • Directing field staff to sample soils and collect data. Document on-site activities at various project sites.
  • Evaluating routine laboratory and field data for inclusion in reports.
  • Individual has willingness to make project site visits to review construction activities, review site inspector activities, develop relationships with contractor and/or owners, and to provide engineering support when required.
  • Preparing calculation packages, technical reports, letters, memoranda reports, and email correspondence to document the engineering analysis performed on behalf of the client.
  • Individual must be self-motivated and be able to effectively manage time and work priorities and be able to clearly communicate with other department staff, field staff, and clients.

Position Requirements and Qualifications:

  • 0 to 3 years of experience in Geotechnical Engineering and Construction Materials Testing and Special Inspections consulting
  • Must have at least a bachelor's degree in civil or geotechnical engineering
  • Must have or be eligible to obtain Engineering Intern Certification (EIT).
  • Intermediate to Advanced level proficiency in MS Office applications (Word & Excel).
  • Must be self-motivated, able to efficiently work independently while completing scheduled tasks, and/or lead a project team.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing with team members, BLE leadership, clients, peers, and regulatory authorities of all levels.
