Burcham Hills is an upscale senior living retirement community located in the backyard of Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI. We currently have vacancy for a Recreation Event and Volunteer Coordinator to work a Full Time schedule. In this position a Recreation Event and Volunteer Coordinator will be responsible for leading the volunteer programs which respond to the vision, mission, and goals of BH by drawing upon the talents and abilities of each volunteer. Coordinate recruitment, selection, orientation and placement. Intervene when necessary. Coordinate community programs, as requested. Organize and lead the recreational events of community. Ensure resident quality of life is maintained and enriched. Provide suggestions and assistance in planning, directing and evaluating the ongoing recreation events and volunteer programs and in addition to but not limited to the following duties:
Event Coordination
Qualifications: Coursework in various aspects of eldercare, recreation, event planning or related subjects required. Bachelor’s Degree in a human service field preferred. Experience working with geriatrics in a long-term care, assisted living or other related residential health care setting. Minimum of 1-year experience in volunteer management, recruitment and training and coordinating community programs and working in a long-term care, assisted living or other related residential health care setting working with geriatrics is strongly preferred. Ability to obtain a chauffer’s driver’s license within two months Ability to work extended or flexible hours, as necessary. Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend written and oral instructions in English. Willingness to handle difficult situations involving residents.

Event Coordination
- Collaborate with the Resident Life Manager to assure events meet the interests and physical, mental and psychosocial well-being of the residents.
- Review support needs and request recreation staff or volunteers as needed for each event.
- Collaborate with Dining Services to place food requests, identify dietary needs of residents and request hospitality staff as needed.
- Promote recreation services to residents, family members and responsible parties.
- Assist in coordinating the transportation of residents to and from events in and outside of the community, which may include driving a community motor vehicle.
- Request funds within budget for event needs and maintain supplies.
- Collaborate with Resident Life Manager to project monthly expenditures and keep records and inventory of supplies.
- Assess volunteer needs of various departments.
- Plan and implement volunteer projects and activities based on community goals, program objectives, and resource needs.
- Maintain public contacts with community agencies and organizations in and public/private sectors to identify and recruit volunteers.
- Select volunteers as appropriate for service to the residents and staff.
- Plan, organize, and implement volunteer recognition events and activities.
- Complete all required paperwork/screens for volunteers prior to approval including visiting pet paperwork.
- Orient volunteers and prepare them to perform their duties in accordance with site volunteer resources, policies and procedures.
