Basic Purpose
Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Branch Manager is responsible for supervising and managing all aspects of the sample prep facility to meet customer requirements while following established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safe practices.
Key Accountability/Responsibilities
- Work closely with Director of Operations to plan, execute, and maintain/implement Lean Management practices, daily management, visual factory, root cause corrective actions, standard work, etc.
- Evaluate site production capacity and staffing requirements to meet client objectives.
- Provide training, development and mentorship to staff
- Ensure sample receiving and preparation activities are performed in accordance with documented SOP’s and other work instructions.
- Work closely with the Supervisor and Director of Operations to plan, direct, and coordinate activities within the facility
- Monitor established KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and execute actions to meet objectives.
- Replenish consumables & supplies to maintain consistent inventory levels
- Management of all vehicles, building and equipment repairs and maintenance
- Maintain IT, phone equipment, alarm systems and other facility equipment
- Quality control management including reporting, audits, quality documentation, investigations
- Client services for regional clients, this includes sample pick up, sample preparation, sample storage, sample shipping and responding to inquiries and requests
- Works as part of a bigger team with other managers to continuously improve systems
- Support other branches and on-site laboratories as required
- Maintain facility permits and licenses
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Comply with the OHS Act and Regulations, BV Group Policy and Procedures, Upstream Minerals
- Management System Policies and Procedures and ISO standards applicable to the Sample
- Preparation Manager position.
- Practice and demonstrate Bureau Veritas values
- Act in a safe and professional manner and wear appropriate attire including the required personal
- protective equipment (PPE), while being a strong proponent for safety in the facility.
- Employee management including interviewing, hiring, mentoring, training, scheduling, conflict
- resolution, disciplinary action, and terminations.
- Review and process employees’ timesheets in a timely manner.
- Maintain employee training records
- Complete timely incident investigation reports, developing detailed corrective actions, whenever a first aid injury occurs
- Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent.
- 5 years of functional experience may substitute and will be evaluated at the Manager’s discretion.
- Lean Management experience is a plus but not required.
- Experience in Mining, Geology, or Sample Preparation process is a plus but not required.
- Ability to use Microsoft software proficiently
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Working knowledge and understanding of financial reports is preferred
- Detail oriented and ability to multitask.
- Ability to work at a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to collaborate with and submit reports to management, leadership, and other business
- functions.
- Ability to take direction and follow instructions.
- Work effectively across organizational and functional boundaries.
- Capable of managing cross functional teams with competing priorities (operations, supply chain, etc.).
- General knowledge of functional areas to include processes, initiatives, and improvement objectives.
- Ability to influence without authority.
- Exposure and working knowledge in negotiation, collaborative problem solving, conflict management,
- meeting facilitation skills, and applying tact and diplomacy with internal/external customers.
