About the Role
Bureau Veritas is seeking a highly skilled Building Inspector to join our team. As a key member of our Florida Business Unit, you will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with building codes, regulations, and ordinances.
Job Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing technical inspections, examining plans and specifications, responding to code-related questions, and conferring with architects, contractors, and the public. You will work under the direction of the Florida Business Unit Manager and be subject to annual performance evaluations.
Main Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspections of commercial, industrial, and residential buildings during various stages of construction and remodeling to ensure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Examine plans and specifications of new construction, additions, and alterations to determine compliance with provisions of applicable construction codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- Respond to code-related questions from developers, builders, contractors, and property owners.
- Confer with architects, contractors, and the public in the field and office to explain and interpret building requirements and restrictions.
- Maintain files and reports regarding inspection and/or plan review activities and findings.
Requirements
- High school graduate or GED; an Associate's degree is preferred but not required.
- Valid Florida Driver's license.
- Florida State Standard Inspector License for Building, Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP).
- Knowledge of the Florida Building Code.
- Able to understand and follow instructions.
- Ability to work well with others in a collaborative team environment.
- High energy level and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Physical Demands
- Work outdoors and be exposed to dust and noise.
- Need to sit, stand, walk, or climb for long periods.
- Must be able to see details of objects and distinguish between colors and shapes.
- Coordinate movement of several parts of the body while the body is moving.
- Able to hear sounds, recognize differences between sounds, and determine from which direction a sound came.
