Title: Nutrition Assistant Manager
Reports To: Nutrition Manager
Employment Status: Non-Exempt
Employment Days and Hours: 189 days/7.5 hours per day
Salary Range: $20,063-$29,784
Job Summary
The assistant nutrition manager assists food service staff in performing their functions in a safe and efficient manner and assist the Nutrition Manager with daily financial and operations responsibiliites in accordance with federal, state and local regulations. Works collaborately with the manager.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Education or equivalent
- Current Serv-Safe Manager Certification
- Three years of experience in school food service or food service industry
- Experience as head cashier, secondary or backup cashier
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
- Strong math computation, reading and writing skills
- Experience with computer technology
- Strong customer service skills
- At least two years of successful employment with a school nutrition program
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five years of experince in school food service or food service industry
- Food service experience in a school or institutional setting
- Expereince in training and working with others
Proficient Skills Requirements:
- Communicate effectively in written and oral form with people using positive interpersonal skills
- Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook/Google Email)
- Organization of mutiple tasks
- Knowledge of HACCP, food safety and sanitation principles
Essential Functions:
Nutrition Integrity and Food Production
- Perform production assistant's responsibilities in his/her absences as needed
- Understand federal, state and local meal program regulations; demonstrate knowledge of meal pattern requirements; make appropriate meal substitutions; assist with identlfying food ingredients for special needs students; work with health professionals in coordinating meals for students with special needs
- Direct support staff in the preparation of food following meal standards, paper standards, standardized recipes, preparation and service methods
- Assist with reviewing and completing daily work production records that reflect accurate reports of planned menus, food produced, served and discarded
- Ensure proper leftover use and documentation; monitor batch-cooking to control waste
- Assume responsibilities of the manager in his/her absence
- Maintain program integrity and accountability through compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, and district policies and procedures
- Help oversee cashiering activities involving the collection of monies; record daily participation totals; prepare routine financial reports; operates Point-of-service (POS) computerized system and perform related cashiering tasks, as required
Personnel Management
- Assist with managing staff according to all federal, state and local employment laws, policies, union contracts and regulations
- Create an atmosphere for employee productivity and satisfaction in the workplace
- Assist with training employees; provide assistance to staff in food production, serving or cleaning activities, as needed
Sanitation, Safety, and Security
- Observe and enforce practices of proper food safety and sanitation; ensure cleanliness of all school food service areas and equipment used
- Ensure compliance with federal, state and local work safety regulations; ensure safe working conditions exist and are practiced in the food service operation
- Provide an environment conducive to protecting the health and well-being of customers through high levels of sanitation standards
Procurement
- Assist manager with calculating and ordering food and supplies following department policies and procedures to meet menu requirements and nutrition standards
- Monitor receiving, checking and ensuring quantity and quality of food and supplies delivered; participates in monthly and weekly inventory of freezers and storerooms
Other Duties and Responibilities
- Represent school nutrition in a positive and professional manner at department-sponsored events and participate in required meetings, trainings and/or fucntions
- Keep Serv-Safe Manager Certification current
- Participate in professional learning opportunities
- Perform and manage job-related proficiency with the highest ethical integrity
- Perform other related duties, as assigned
Mental/Physical Requirements:
- Work in this classification is considered heavy physical work and requires significant lifting (40#), carrying, pushing, and/or pulling' significant stooping or kneeling, repetitive motion and significant fine finger dexterity. The job is also performed under temperature extremes of heat and cold ranging from 100 degrees or more to below 0 degrees Fahrenheit
- Ability to maintain emotional control under stress
Environmental Factors:
- Hazardous physical conditions such as wet and/or slippery surfaces
- Cold temperatures in coolers and freezers
