- Candidates must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Principal license
- Training in the N.C. A Teacher Performance Appraisal system or its equivalent is preferred
- Administrative experience is required
Job Description and Duties
- Serve as the instructional leader of the school
- Serve as the school's chief administrator in developing and implementing policies, programs, curricular and co-curricular activities, and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member.
- Conceptualize Board of Education goals, BCPS Strategic Plan, and School Improvement Plan to ensure that procedures and schedules are implemented for the total school program.
- Ensure that the school program is compatible with the school system's legal, financial, and organizational structure.
- Define the responsibilities and accountability of staff
- Provide activities that facilitate the growth of school staff and enhance the quality of the instructional program
- Identify the annual objectives for the instructional programs of the School Improvement Plan
- Involve faculty in the development of specific curricular objectives to meet the needs of the school program
- Establish, implement, and evaluate procedures used to carry out the daily routine of the school
- Supervise student enrollment, records, attendance, and health requirements
- Evaluate students’ progress in the instructional program through the use of up-to-date student data
- Relate to students with mutual respect while carrying out a positive and effective discipline policy
- Supervise and appraise the performance of the school staff
- Maintain positive school and district communications, and maintain positive communications with the community
- Adhere to Board of Education policies and follow established procedures
- Orient new staff members and new students to the school program and assist in their adjustment
- Develop and implement plans for emergencies, in cooperation with staff and public safety agencies
- Maintain positive relations with the public, encourage the use of community resources, and coordinate the community use of school facilities
- Promote and maintain open communications, positive student attitudes, respect the dignity and the worth of staff, students, and comply with established lines of authority
- Manage, direct, and maintain records/inventory of materials, supplies, and equipment that are necessary to carry out the daily school routine
- Participate in the selection of all school staff members
- Maintain own professional competence by attending conferences, workshops, and college classes that focus on educational trends
- Must be able to perform heavy work, exerting more than 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or over 50 pounds of force frequently, and/over of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects
- Perform all other duties and responsibilities as delegated by the superintendent
