Middle School Reading Specialist
Job DescriptionPurpose Statement
The job of Middle School Reading Specialist is done for the purpose/s of improving students reading capacity by providing high-quality instructional interventions and opportunities for core skill reading practice in a regular classroom setting.
This job reports to Building Principal
Essential Functions
Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials to reading ability for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives.
Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations, student's achievements, developing methods for improvement, and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment. Assesses student progress towards objectives, expectations, skills, standards, and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration.
Assists students, individually or in small groups, with lesson assignments for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts and assisting students in reaching academic goals and grade level standards.
Collaborates with instructional staff, other school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes, achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
Delivers intervention programs and monitors student learning towards established learning targets for the purpose of improving student learning outcomes. Maintains classroom equipment, work area, and manual and electronic files and records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; providing a safe learning environment; and/or meeting mandated requirements.
Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g. rest rooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeteria, parking lots, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment.
Participates in meetings and professional development presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions. Researches resources and methods (e.g. intervention and instructional techniques, assessment tools and methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining appropriate instructional approach for students.
Responds to and reports situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
Utilizes data to design and implement learning plans for the purpose of addressing student deficits.
